Pacific Media Expo run by ex-AX staff
Word has come out on the Anime Con Mailing List that a new convention is planned for Memorial Day 2004 and is to be held in Southern California. According to Megazone, "The new con isn't an anime only con, it is planned to be a general media event with anime, Hong Kong film, J-Horror, J-Rock/Pop, etc."
The convention is to be named the "Pacific Media Expo," focussing on Asian media.
He also states that the majority of the people involved are ex-AX staff, although no names (other than his own) are mentioned. Megazone is the convention's Programming Director.
One interesting aspect of the convention will be it's renumeration policy. They are specifically not setting it up as a non-profit organization because they would like to renumerate staff, but "instead of the money going to the people at the top, we're going to try to reward the general staff." Although registered non-profit organizations (NPO / NFP (Not for Profit)) are permitted to renumerate some of the people involved, there are certain limits placed on them.
The official announcement of the Pacific Media Expo should be in the coming week.
