report from Harmony Gold's Robotech panel at Comic Con

Harmony Gold revealed some big news at their San Diego Comic Con Robotech panel.
Explaining that fans recognize Robotech as "Anime" Harmony Gold announced the cancelation of teh Robotech 3000 project. Despite canceling the project a clip was from the developmental Robotech 3000, featuring some new characters in 3D glory by Netter Digital Media.
Harmony Gold still plans on releasing a new Robotech series and has gone back to Japan, contacting some of the original producers of the Japanese animation and asking them to come up with some design ideas. This is in a preliminary stage though, the panel was only shown three or four fully colored concept sketches, but no actual animation. Carl Macek will be heading the project, which will feature a story 700 or 800 years after the last Robotech series. As can be inferred the series is a long way away.
ADV's upcoming DVD release of Robotech will have a second audio channel featuring a commentary form the original development team.
Mattel was also present at the panel to duscuss their plans for their newly aquired game licence for Robotech. Mattel has no plans to release the never-released Nintendo 64 game, Crystal Dreams, because the game looks too dated to bring to market. Instead look for Mattel to hire a development team to develop Robotech games for the next generation of console systems (specifically mentioned were X-Box and Dolphin) as well as the PC.
