"Ryoko" of Ghiblink's Disney News newsgroup reports that the highly anticipated bilingual LD release of Kiki's Delivery Service, originally slated for the first of September, has been delayed until the end of September or early October.
In addition, Ryoko passes along a few pieces of information from assorted articles in the Japanese newspaper "Houchi Shinbun"...
The deal between Disney (Miramax) and Tokuma Shoten was finally set in stone in May. (The deal made in 1996 was only tentative.) The only conditions Tokuma had were that Miramax was to make no cuts in the visuals or the music. Despite this, Tokuma and/or Ghibli still get occasional faxes from Disney, asking of they can cut some of the more violent scenes. Disney is reportedly spending about $2 million on the English version of Mononoke Hime, and Miramax president Harvey Weinstein has been quoted as saying that he is aiming for an Oscar for the film.
Repeated in the articles were rumors that President Bill Clinton and First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton are planning to attend the North American premiere, currently set for next spring, and Madonna will sing the new end theme.
