Yama no Susume Holds 4th Mountain Day Event with BBQ
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
The Japanese government added the national holiday Mountain Day in 2016. The August 11 holiday encourages people to explore their local mountains, which are abundant in Japan. The anime series Encouragement of Climb (Yama no Susume) has held a fan event on Mountain Day for the last four years. This year the staff are hosting a "barbecue party" on August 7 at the Tokyo AKIHABARA Gamers Main Store.
The anime staff have prepared an illustration of the five main character enjoying a barbecue party for limited tie-in merchandise. The anime's voice actresses Kana Asumi (Hinata) and Yuka Iguchi (Aoi) will appear at the Akihabara Gamers store on August 20 to hold a public recording session of a radio CD. The store will have an ongoing lottery campaign for customers from August 8 to August 20 with a chance to win event tickets.
The party won't stop at the Akihabara Gamers store. The barbecue party will go on tour at five Gamers locations throughout Japan. The AKIHABARA Gamers Main Store will be sell merchandise until August 25, followed by events at the Aichi/Nagoya branch, the Fukuoka/Hakata branch, the Miyagi/Sendai branch and the Osaka and Namba branch.
Shiro's Yama no Susume manga inspired the anime. The first season debuted in 2013, followed by the second season in 2014. The third television anime season premiered on July 2. Crunchyroll streamed all three seasons as they aired in Japan. The anime also inspired the Yama no Susume: Omoide Present (Memories Present) original video anime (OVA) in 2017.
The manga and anime tell the story of childhood friends: Aoi, a girl who prefers staying inside and who has acrophobia, and Hinata, a girl who loves mountains. The two decide to climb a mountain in order to once again see the Morning Sun from its peak as they did when they were young.
The Encouragement of Climb television anime inspired a stage play from May 10-12.
