Shinya Tsukamoto's U.K. Visit Cancelled (Updated)
posted on by Andrew Osmond
Update - Shinya Tsukamoto's visit to England, and his appearances at the East End Film Festival and the Edinburgh Film Festival, have been cancelled due to "tragic family issues," according to Third Window's facebook page.
Three films by cult Japanese director Shinya Tsukamoto will be shown at the East End Film Festival. There will be a double bill of his live-action films Tetsuo: The Iron Man (1989) and Tetsuo II: Body Hammer (1992), starting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday July 4. The screening will take place at the Hackney Picturehouse.
Tsukamoto's new film Kotoko will be screened at 8.30 p.m on the following day, Thursday July 5. This screening will be at the Rich Mix Cinema in Bethnal Green.
Third Window Films has already announced that it will release Tetsuo 1 & 2 as a U.K. Blu-ray double-pack in October 2012, with transfers restored by Tsukamoto himself. The pack will include Tsukamoto's 45 minute Tetsuo-prototype film 'The Adventures of Electric Rod Boy' (Denchu Kozo no Boken); and also a new interview with Tsukamoto. The Tetsuo set will coincide with the DVD/Blu-ray release of Kotoko, which is also scheduled for October 2012.
