Akira Yamato-designed character used to promote Iwate city
A city rest stop in Japan's Kuji city in Iwate prefecture has started a contest to name a mascot character who is a "female shell-diver from the northern reaches." The character is drawn by the designer Akira Yamato, who is also an illustrator of adult manga for publishers such as Akaneshinsha and Shobunkan. Proposed names for the character are being accepted until the end of October, and visitors to the rest stop who purchase 2000 yen or more worth of items will be given one vote in the contest, as well as a sticker.
