The Hollywood Reporter newspaper's Heat Vision blog reported on Monday that actress Emily Blunt (The Five-Year Engagement, The Devil Wears Prada) is in negotiations with Warner Brothers to co-star in the feature film adaptation of Hiroshi Sakurazaka's prose novel All You Need Is Kill. The blog notes that Blunt "would play Valkyrie One, one of humankind's best soldiers."
The film is tentatively set to star Tom Cruise, and will be produced by Warner Bros. Pictures. Director Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity, Mr. and Mrs. Smith) stated in an interview in January that All You Need Is Kill will be his next project. Erwin Stoff, Tom Lassally, and Jason Hoffs are producing the project through 3 Arts Entertainment. The entertainment trade magazine Variety notes that Dante Harper and Joby Harold wrote the script for the film, and Harold will also serve as the film's executive producer.
All You Need Is Kill revolves around a battle-armored soldier who finds himself dying and re-incarnating over and over again during an alien invasion. Viz Media published Sakurazaka's novel in English to launch its Haikasoru imprint for Japanese science fiction and fantasy in 2009.
