Season one of the series was about the battles between M.A.S.K. and V.E.N.O.M. using their own technologically advanced weapons and vehicles. Season two switched the focus to that of a racing element in which M.A.S.K. would race against V.E.N.O.M. with the purpose of putting a stop to V.E.N.O.M. rigging the races.
Gloria Baker's Porche she used in the series is the only vehicle that did not get made into a toy by the Kenner company. Instead, the Gloria action figures were released with a Lamborghini Countach as her vehicle. This vehicle was never once featured in any episodes of the series.
This was the first animated series to be broadcasted on syndication with closed caption.
Takara waited until the entire series had completed before attempting to launch MASK in Japan, which was a fatal error. Bandai capitalized on that lead time by trademarking the name "Maskman" so that Takara couldn't use "MASK" as a title, and launched a copycat toyline called "Metalder Ghost Bank Series". And following the failure of G.I. Joe in Japan, Takara canceled the domestic release.
