Contrary to popular belief. Go Nagai had no hand in Gaiking at all. His company Dynamic animated the series after episode 26.
The leader of the alien villains was named Darius, and all of their ships and mecha were fish-shaped, which most likely inspired the Darius series of video games.
The William Winckler Productions dub combined 15 episodes into 3 movies. The first combined episodes 1, 2, 3, 22 & 23, the second combined episodes 25, 9, 12, 13 & 14 and the third combined episodes 17, 24, 33, 43 & 44.
