In correspondence to the original manga at the end of episode 16 when Hawk asks Takamura to shake hands, Hawk asks in Engrish while in the anime, he says it in Japanese.
Morris West, Takamura's opponent in episode 16 is based on Morris East, the second youngest world champion in history at age 17.
