Tetsujin 28 Contest
Contest Winners Posted!!
They say imitation is the best form of flattery, though building robots as substitutes for dead children... well, that's a bit weird. The grand adventure begins when Professor Kaneda creates the ultimate soldier robot as a substitute for his son, Shotaro, whom he mistakenly believed died in a bomb raid on Tokyo during World War II. Naming his creation Tetsujin, the professor hides the robot on a remote island to prevent the army from using him as a tool for destruction. Ten years after the war, after 28 failed attempts, Tetsujin is finally resurrected by Professor Shikishima, the late Professor Kaneda's protégé. Meanwhile, Shotaro has grown up to become a genius boy detective and now joins forces with his beloved Tetsujin to wage a courageous battle against evil! A legendary masterpiece, which shines in the history of postwar manga, is now resurrected brilliantly! |

To help celebrate the release of this reborn classic, Anime News Network and Geneon Entertainment are offering the chance to win one of three Tetsujin 28 prize packs. While they fall short of being your very own World War II-era steel beast, we think you'll find these prizes the next best thing. Each set will include a copy of Tetsujin 28 with the artbox, a Tetsujin 28 wobble clock, a cell phone strap and more.
How to enter
For this contest, you need to first be able to answer a few questions about Tetsujin 28 and be able to weave a good story. Winning this contest is a two-step process.
First, answer these three questions about the show. Watch the trailer linked at the top of this page for clues, or dig around the Internet (including ANN's encyclopedia!).
- What original anime is Tetsujin 28 based on?
- Had Tokyo Tower been built when Tetsujin 28 is defending Japan from the bad guys? (Tokyo Tower is that thing that looks like the Eiffel Tower and gets destroyed in practically all Godzilla movies... or just about any anime that features the destruction of Tokyo!)
- What is the difference between Mecha and Robots?
Second: In 500 words or less, create a side story where Tetsujin 28 can actually speak, but no one except Shotaro can actually hear him. Artwork is optional. We will be judging this part based on your creativity, so get your imagination going.
Entries will be accepted in the following formats: DOC, RTF, TXT, PDF, WPD, WPS, 123. You can only enter once, so make that story count! All entries should be sent to [email protected] along with your full name and primary e-mail address
The contest will run from September 20th to October 7th. Entries must be received by 11:59 PM EST on that day. Winners will be contacted by email on October 8th.
Contest Rules and Eligibility
The contest is open to all readers, however prizes will only be sent to US addresses. So, if you live in Botswana or a remote intergalactic satellite, ask a friend in the US if you can use his/her shipping address.
