"Hows work been for you lately?"
"Well I spent the last three weeks counting chocolates sent to fictional cartoon characters. Over 5000 boxes a day."
"Did you get sent any?"
"No."

Yeah, this is just a hideous waste. Why not send food to, y'know, actual hungry people who need it?

Because charity and fangirling are two different matters.

I just wonder what Mr. Konomi-san is going to do with all that excessive amount of chocolate? I'm sure there are many hungry folks out there that wouldn't mind having a bite or two. Wink

I guess it's the same as asking why people spend money on anime, games, movies and anything else arguably non-essential for survival when they could have donated all that money to charity. Seriously, we can all survive on the cheapest of gruel but we eat the most delicious foods that are unnecessarily expensive.

We are all wasteful. Let's not pretend we're better than anyone else.

I don't think hungry people wanna eat chocolates for breakfast, lunch, & dinner.......even less so if they're either lactose intolerant or diabetic.

There's a huge difference between buying non-essential items that one enjoys and purchasing candy for the sole purpose of having it thrown away. That's even before you add on the rather pathetic layer of buying chocolates for a fictional character that doesn't actually exist. (mai husbandoooo!) Hell, if you want to completely piss your money away, send it to me so I can do something fun with it.

Er, these people are having fun and enjoying themselves by doing it, which is more than enough of a valid reason. What may be "piss your money" away to you might not be to someone else and vice versa.

Well I can see both points for and against for sending chocolate to fictional characters, but really it's more of an expression of gratitude towards a series.

That said I feel really bad for whoever had to count all that chocolate.

At least they'll have a chance to snack on any leftover chocolate. Wink

Not to mention, their money goes to the chocolate manufacturers. They have to earn a living too and support their families, don't they? (^.^)
