Man, 93-years-old. Reading this reminds me of a quote from him regarding how his contemporaries died much younger.
"I sleep nine hours a day and look at me now - everyone else is dead!" He was definitely one the greats. His Showa manga is a very thoughtful and honest recollection of that period in Japanese history. |

Oh my god, this is really sad news. He was truly an amazing human being. I will always admire him. His knowledge of youkai can not be challenged.

An absolute LEGEND in manga, not just with his WWII series that clearly took influence from his own experiences, but also a pioneer of youkai-centric titles. Gegege no Kitarou is probably one of the most influential manga in history and really kicked off the youkai sub-genre. And to think he did all that with ONE ARM. He will never be forgotten.

Really sad. He was one of the all time legends in the industry and he has helped make it what it was for the rest of the industry alongside Tezuka.
I always had his Nekomusume character as my avatars in online accounts and thought he would be like a constant in the industry. Always living and creating. But he lived to a really ripe old age and has accomplished much. May his influence ripple through the industry always. |

Not only a legend, but Shigeru Mizuki was considered an icon in Japan. So, grateful that his works had come to America for both new and older fans.
Truly honored to own both the Kitaro anthology and Onward Towards our Noble Deaths. May he rest in peace and among the youkai. |

I'm speechless. I was kind of hoping he would be immortal. I'm glad he left us with so much great work, and that his autobiographical and historical works were translated into English. He was a brilliant artist and an inspiration.

Here is a guy who truly honed his craft. And like someone mentioned, with one arm. That takes true talent. I remember watching Kitaro when I was younger, those who good times. Thank you sir for helping contribute to not only my childhood, but my mother's as well.

I visited his home town in tottori one time and they have an entire little shopping street all themed after him and his works (mainly kitaro).
I heard that for many many years he would often appear there himself and shake hands with people and serve as his own ambassador to the people who came to visit the very small fishing community that it is. Truly a wonderful man and artist and one can only hope that someone of our generation can reach half the greatness his generation produced. |
