I think the pig-nosed stuff tends to be how Araki draws random bad dudes whose sole purpose is to get beat up/stabbed/decapitated/bullied/dismembered/eaten/etc. five pages after they first appear. I don't know what sort of ethnic stereotype Rebecca seems to think it indicates, though.
Also, is it okay for us to directly address the writers on the site? I just didn't want to come off as if I was attacking her.

Personally, I adore Araki's early artwork. As crude as it may look at first glance, he has the ability to put a lot of character into whatever or whomever he draws. The faces of his better looking characters are beautiful and highly detailed in some panels, and I love his ostentatious use of costume and accessories to dress his characters...very 80's and contemporary with the era in which he created Battle Tendency

You're not bothering/insulting me by addressing me directly. The stereotypes I was thinking of was the "cops as pigs" mixed with the "Irish cops" - I can see where it looks like I made a leap of logic there. I don't remember any other pig-snouted bad guys, or at least so distinctly piggy-looking ones, in Phantom Blood, but it does seem like something Araki would do as a shortcut to indicate "bad guy." I'll keep a closer eye on it.

I know Stardust Crusaders pioneered every Shonen cliche Dragon Ball hadn't pioneered already - and stands as a fine read on its own - but I like Battle Tendency more. Joseph can act obnoxious at times but does not dip into callousness 24/7 the way his grandson does. Jotaro's treatment of his grandfather almost throughout SC puts me off as it never comes from a place of vulnerability, or comedy. He seemingly grew up an odious jerk and I have to imagine that for his mother, falling victim to DIO's curse only ranks second in the worst things that have ever happened to her.
The Pillar Men also kick Stand users' asses all the way. Their abilities may not have had the sheer amount of variety as SC's heavies, but they made up for it as BT kept going. Stretching their bodies so as to fit in inches-long pipes, literally melting people to feed themselves... I suspect Toriyama drew inspiration from them for how Cell and Buu showed similar abilities, but while these powers already seemed weird and painful for its victims in DBZ, to see them depicted with the amount of detail Araki draws brings it to the next level of Messed Up Ways To Kill People. The utter disregard they showed towards whoever stood up to them also enhanced the menace - a DBZ villain blowing up a planet musters hate and some dread, but one Pillar Man melting an innocent man literally in half without even realizing it turns them effectively into horror story villains, making it even sweeter when Joseph has to use his skills and thinking to take them down, and even then he owes some victories to not a little amount of luck.
I can't wait for Viz to finish BT, which drives me mad how their Jojo release schedule shows no consistency at all. Next volume could come out next week, in two months, six months... No one knows. It's really enervating, but at least America keeps getting their Jojo fix legally, which represents a win for readers here.

Thanks for the clarification. As for the noses, they tend to be not so much pig-esque as just ugly and bulbous. Granted, I haven't read Battle Tendency in years, so you might be on to something. I guess I'll know whether or not that's the case soon; these releases are a good excuse to return to the early bits.

It's pretty consistent though? Viz actually has a calendar on their site for their print selection, and they tend to release digital first. For JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, print volumes are released every 3 months. Vols. 1-3 of Phantom Blood were released on February, May, and August, and now in November we get Battle Tendency Vol. 1.
