It's a fun series I guess...
Nothing too much to expected from this. Coincidentally, there's also another monster harem show this Summer. But for this one, I think it has the better character facial expressions. |

Man, Aizawa really brought the comedy gold this episode. I'm really warming up to her voice too.

Is it just me or do the girls' faces look vaguely ahegao? (Don't google what that is if you're at work or around children.)
I agree that the show isn't groundbreaking, but it's pleasant enough. I'm not sure if I will stick around until the end, but, for now, I'll keep watching. |

Like I've said, once the status quo is established is when the manga really got going and became a gag-a-panel side splitter. Also, events have been switched up a bit as in the manga Aizawa's secret getting out was a little later in the narrative and it happened in a different way for the audience (the characters found it out pretty much the same way as in the show).

Nagisa was just hilarious. Poor Youko at the end though...

I'm surprised they didn't just go with the plot from chapter 2 of the manga, it's a natural continuation of episode 1's plot and is just as funny. Aizawa's reveal could have been pushed back a bit. Plus the after-school bento scene would have been so much better with the original Mikan sequence instead of making it bland then transitioning to Aizawa :/
To be fair, the Aizawa audience-reveal was loads better in the anime than it was in the manga |

Totally agree with Paul's assessment, including the grade. This one has also been a pleasant surprise for me so far, and the reveal on Nagisa's secret. . . wow, I did not see that coming as the truth of the matter, nor did I expect her to be comedy gold after the fact.
Yeah, this one has me locked in for the season. |

As a manga reader, I'm absolutely pleased with the way the anime is adapted. The characters are pleasant and the pacing is pretty gentle. Something else I like about this anime is that they have a bunch of quite new seiyuu in the main roles rather than casting the very popular ones to attract more crowds.

English streaming title: Actually, I Am...
English manga title: My Monster Secret English subtitle the author chose: I Am... So no one is aiming for brand recognition. Last edited by Hameyadea on Tue Jul 14, 2015 10:20 am; edited 1 time in total |

As a big fan of the manga, my only complaint with the anime is that they've toned down the level of goofiness in the faces. I was glad to see the Russian Roulette cream puffs come in to play this early...

I really love this series after just 2 episodes. It somehow has an old school feel to it, probably because of the character designs which look seriously amazing.

The only complaint I have has to do with the facial expressions. I mean, sure, the manga at first didn't have many to begin (elaborate ones) but it got going and eventually turned into the main appeal of the comedy. But the anime could have done so much more with the first and second episodes...
But it's fine. We got to see the characteristic, signature face of Youko eating a cream-puff of Mikan. And that shit is hilarious to no end |

Sex appeal, ok. Dirty humor, maybe. But I am positive that this series will not have any real fanservice (aside from showing girls in swimwear). Heck, even the manga has toned down Youko's oppai size (and the anime has trimmed it even more) which was not anything special (for a manga) to begin with. IMO this is an interesting experiment, can a modern comedy work without real fanservice? I hope so. At least in my country the best (live action) comedies were those without the fanservice we see in the modern ones. That is not to say I would not minds some saucy shots in magazines like megami or nyantype, but that is another matter entirely. |

I think the genre you mentioned is [harem], not [comedy]. One of the best comedy animes, IMO, is Gintama, and it successfully makes me laugh from situational moments and witty dialog; sure, it also has raunchy humor, but it works even without using those methods. Another example would be the Working!! franchise, and there are many more. Harem shows, however, are increasingly featuring some kind of "lewdness" (the accidental slip & grope, a panty shot, "my clothes got wet", you name it). I'm having a hard time recalling the last time I've seen a harem show that hasn't resorted to those tropes. |
