Never too old for a review though.

Yeah, ANN strives to have the most complete information on a series that it can. So, filling in reviews for volumes without a review is a good thing. It's just a "Latest Review," not neccessarily a review on a recently released item.

This review was extremely apologetic towards the fact that once again Gainax runs out of money and drops the ball at the end of the series. 'Thematically complete' my eye. KareKano doesn't have an ending, it just stops. This guy loves the show so much he can't point out its flaws; not a good quality in a critic.

I'm surprised each of the reviews (volumes 1, 2, and 5) have such a high rating for the dub. Although I feel the scripting is well written and the acting pretty decent, I still don't like a lot of the voices they have casted. I'd probably have given it somewhere around a B to B+, but I guess it just depends on the person Anime catgrin + sweatdrop.

Yeah, it's all matter of opinion. I think Karekano's dub is one of the best I've heard. ^^

It's a bit more than personal opinion--some actors bring a character to life better than others, and some directors make better casting choices than others. I can't comment on the Kare Kano dub since I haven't heard it, but let's not go down the "it's just your opinion" road.

*Shrug*

I felt I pointed out the flaws, at the very least. I readily admit that they do not bother me nearly as much as they bother others. That's...kind of the point of a review. I say what I liked and why, and provide enough information to let people know what they're in for. I spend more time on what I feel because, hey, I'm the one writing the review. There is certainly nothing perfect about the show's ending, but I truly do feel it to be thematicaly complete.

A bit OT, but it seems over the past week ANN has put out quite a few reviews, much more than usual and not even on new stuff. Is it just by chance?

I think it may be because they have some new reviewers, not certain though.

These are all the reviews from the "finalists" of the open call for help a few months ago. Expect this pace to continue once a few of us are hired.

Wrong. Your review comes across as extremely fanboyish. "I really love this show so the fact that it doesn't end doesn't bother me! Here's 4 paragraphs apologizing for this show's terrible ending!". Not a review. Reads more like a hardcore fan of the show trying to justify why the show's ending sucks so much. You think it's thematically complete? Prove it, don't just say so. Don't tell us it "just doesn't bother you" because if you aren't thinking about this stuff more than that then guess what, you have no business writing a review. Criticism isn't just vomiting your opinion all over a page; it's supposed to be well-thought out, defended, justified and sensible. There's an art to it.

Anyone can write a review on the internet. Prove it's worth my time to listen to you.

Yes, Toboe, but how do you really feel? This volume of the series was barely graded a B overall by the reviewer. Not the fanboy "A" I would have given the series in general. Loved the dub, definitely one of the better ensembles I have been exposed to. I particularly enjoyed the performances of the actors who played Yukino and Asaba. As for the ending, it may not have had anything to do with the budget at all. Possible behind-the-scenes controversies aside, perhaps it was just clever marketing. I now have to read past the 9th or 10th volumes of the Kare Kano manga for continued satisfaction. Nice job, Justin.

The only justification I can offer is in the review itself. If I felt I had to offer extraneous arguments to assert myself, I wouldn't have submitted the review in it's current condition.

You can read my review and say I didn't try to justify my stance, if you want. I think I did. I can, at the very least, tell you I tried to. I am aware of what it takes to write a review.

And like the other guy said, it's not like I gave it an 'A' anyway.

The root of the matter is you feel the thrust of my review to be an apology, while I feel the thrust of my review was an analysis. I chose to write a review of this particular volume of this particular series because I felt I could offer something relevant to the debate over it's ending. It is messy, and it is abrupt, but that is in the spirit of the show itself. Outside of a general "boy and girl fall in love, work out their problems", I don't think there is much of a plot to the show. It's strengths lie in the characters, and I feel that if the viewer can understand that, then the ending works much better. If the viewer doesn't much care for the characters, or doesn't like this type of exposition, then they will not like the show much, and they will hate the ending. That is the central point of my review. It is tilted towards the positive because I myself happened to enjoy it a great deal.

Oh dear. I said I wasn't going to offer and suplimental arguments, and then I did. But! I said this stuff in the review too, so it doesn't count...right?
