Thank you so much for putting this on the front page. Even if future outages aren't this dire, it's good to have this kind of information where we can get at it.
These things happen, so I hope you don't all go crazy doing what you can to recover from it, and I hope people won't be too unforgiving about it.

I figured there was something wrong when my ANN feed didn't update all day.
I wonder if this is related to the downtime that occurred a month ago. Are there seriously people attacking ANN? People need to find better hobbies.

Good to have you back.
From this IT Professional to the ANN IT Staff, good job getting everything back online. Damn shame about the backups, but if you are involved in IT for any length of time you will lose data no matter how diligent you are. Good luck in nailing the gremlins that caused the outage.

Well, the important thing is you're back.
Good thing too, because I was getting worried.
Ciao.

ANN is still very old web technologies. this is due to happen alot.
They should atleast host their stuff on cloud like use amazon AWS or Azure. Amazon and Microsoft would backup your stuffs in different data center. If you pay more, you can even backup data in Asia, US, EU data center. hard to bring them all down unless asteroid destroy earth or something.

How do you know they don't? Lots of people run old PHP forum software on AWS. I don't think any of us on the outside have enough information to cast blame or propose solutions.

While I was at nearly 2100 posts a few days ago (I think 2088), I will have to just treat my pre-2000 posts as being posts 2089+.

I noticed I had 500 plus post but now I have over 400.
And I just made a funny one yesterday about Sailor Moon being the Borg of my childhood in the Sailor Moon R VA announcement thread.

Tracking my anime/manga on three different sites finally paid off.
I'm just glad the site is back up; this my go-to place for all anime knowledge like staff listings, and one of my go-to places for when I'm just bored. Data loss always sucks, regardless of situation and scale.

Wow, this was some outage. It's sad that I have to re-update my anime list but I suppose it can't be helped.
I'm glad that this wasn't a malicious attack on the site.

I was wondering what happened to ANN when I couldn't access the website for the entire day... Oh, well, it's bound to occur unexpectedly sometime. Fortunately, these spontaneous shutdowns are only rare.
Edit: Hmm...I noticed my that post count dropped. It seems that the unexpected shutdown caused some of the posts to disappear. Oh, well, it's nothing to lose sleep over. I'm just satisfied that ANN is back up and running.
