YAY, I love Shirobako! Oh, wait...
In all seriousness though, it is a cool idea that'll undoubtedly aid to many aspiring animators-to-be in particular, and others who are interested in working in the anime industry in general. |

I just got an update from them yesterday saying they would be premiering the film at TIFF. I had forgotten about their announcement for the book. I already contributed to the first fundraiser, and it's cool to see more people getting into it.

Anyone know how they clean them up, I've scanned in drawings before to be coloured and all the dirt shows up, but if I lower the exposure the lines fade away.

There are already a lot of guides on how to do this online, but one of the best ways is to level it. |

Are you sure lines in your drawing are clean and smudge free? Not only that, you have to trace the lines with vector line tools. |

You don't always have to manually retrace the lines, there are programs like Vector Magic that automatically convert that for you, or you could just use Photoshop if you only want to change the colour of the lines. |

As far as I know the Asian studios use the RETAS! PRO HD set of applications by Celsys.
Here are some pretty old demos, Traceman HD for auto-tracing and vectorization. And Stylos HD for digital drawing and corrections. BTW in their last update, they gave a sample of the layout section: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1287579779/art-of-making-santa-company-a-complete-guide/posts/1021685 |
