Remaking I-IX for the PS3/4 would be time consuming because they would have to do it from the ground up. It isn't like X where the graphics can easily be given an HD facelift.
If a remake gets done, they should add some details to make the Compilation fit in better with the continuity. |

Sony's already put the "soft" version of the PSX FFVII on PS3 Network, and it's a popular title.
(They've also got V and VI for PS3, but those were 2D SNES titles, and we're not even talking in the same ballpark as VII onwards...I-IV/Tactics have already been "exiled" to the Vita handheld.) If it weren't for those danged boxy characters, I'd say a hi-def upgrade was a no-brainer for Sony. As it is, if they want it to look like FFVIII or X/X2 before HD upgrading, it'd take a LOT of work from scratch. (But FFVII will always be there to remind us what's wrong with XII.) |

AnimeKing: BS. If they can remake FF IV from the ground up, they can do the same with VII. There's something else holding them back.

Staff availability? Budget? That hasn't stopped you guys from making a couple of games that have been getting decent to meh reviews.
XII? That's a funny way to spell VI or IX. |

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice...well, I just don't think they have the market numbers they want. There are also a ton of other Square titles collecting dust as well. But no. We westies want to shoot things. I like dreaming about the nineties for nostalgia, but I'm not holding my breath on this one. Improvements and growing trends have emerged in both markets, but I think the real deciding factor is money. Both investment and expected return.

There's kind of a big difference there. Kitase it talking as if they remade FFVII as a modern level production. 4 DS is a DS 3d level game. Not really comparable to a FFXIII level production that Kitase is talking about. Animeking is a 100% correct. Whats holding them back is time, labor, and money.

time and labor are reasonable reasons why it would be a hell of a task but I will say this the minute they put a trailer up I'd be shouting "Take My [expletive] Money Damn IT!!!!!!!!"

exactly, 13 is still the most polished and best looking of the 3 games. That's not to say the other 2 weren't as good its just that they clearly didn't have the same budget and time that went into 13.
When it comes to a 7 remake i imagine people would prefer they go all out as opposed to half-assing it. Which makes it very unlikely to happen. |

Personally I think it would have been better for Square to remake FFVII for the PS3 instead of making a FFXIII trilogy. I can see why they would want to make at least one new main title like XIII, but I never understood making two more games. Not sure if that was the plan from the beginning or they decided to make that sequels later.

Anything would be better than XII-XIII, but I think we're just not appreciating the problem with upgrading VII: Here is how we imagine Cloud, in the creator's concepts today: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Cloud_Strife?file=FF7AC_Cloud_Strife_SR%252B_L_Artniks.png Here is how he appears in the original, un-upgraded form of the game: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Final_Fantasy_VII_Screenshots?file=AerithDeath1.jpg ...It would be easier to make Lego Star Wars look like FFXIII!!!! (And even the look of the VII characters were just trying to HD upgrade the V-VI characters into a solid 3D environment: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Final_Fantasy_VI?file=FFVI_Celes_stabs_Kefka.png ) |

7 remake not going to happen unless SE finds itself in the same situation that made FF 1 possible.

The problem is, everyone wants this remake to happen, but if it actually did, it would probably be a flop as fond memories are best left in the past.
SE should just focus on trying to recreate the success of FF7 with new installments, not remakes. |

Rahxephon:
It's still as good or better, in terms of presentation, than the original FF7. Danette:
They needed something to keep people busy until FF XV. Seriously, Square was willing to bankrupt its company for a shitty bomb of a film, but it doesn't want to invest in a game which would make money? What's wrong with that picture? Eric: It doesn't have to look exactly like Advent Children. It just has to be at least on par with the last few Nintendo Wii Zeldas, in terms of visuals. vulcan:
Well, if Eva is still selling 20 years later, I don't see why FF7 2.0 would fail. |

They had to justify all the R&D years and expense that went into the Crystal Tools engine, to more than just one game but to as many games as they can before it's retired. |
