Newvember seems to be working out well, doesn't it.

I never understood how they get the ratings. Can someone please explain how it works?

http://www.nielsenmedia.com/

They have an faq that may be able to clear things up more than I could by trying to explain it, but from the little bits I understand they basically put a special box in the houses of selceted families hooked to every tv so they can track who watches what. Though only a fraction of a percent of people are tracked by this method they use various statistical methods to estimate how much of the total population is watching a given show. So if by any chance you happen to become one of these "neilsen families" for the love of god watch every anime every chance you get *grins*

Neilson select households at randon and ask if they can hook up one of their survey boxes to one's TV. This box records what channel at what time and feeds this info down the household's telephone at intervials at night when not many people are using their phones. How this can tell them what age the person is at the time of viewing is a mystery to me. I think it's probably speculation. "Poké-mon, Must be someone aged 6 to 11-years-old. who else would watch it?" said the Neilson analyser. Meanwhile back at the engine shed....... Arrow

In addition we ask each member of the household to let us know when they are watching by pressing a pre-assigned button on the People Meter which is also present. By matching this button activity to the demographic information (age/gender) we collect at the time the meters are installed, we can match the set tuning – what is being watched – with who is watching.

Sounds like it huh?. Very Happy

Thanks for the link.

I just hope they don't use the same random system as the courts... Evil or Very Mad

A household using Neilson (and similiar test-marketing systems)gives information as to describe the age and gender of the person(s) viewing specific programs. If folks just randomly guessed it would destroy the majority of value of the system, as accurate age/marketing demographics are the key to advertising impact/revenues.

Months ago, my house was chosen. I of course watched all three hours of adult swim each night. The next week or two, all those articles started being released about how Adult Swim is dominating the 18-35 crowd. (I'm 19) Found it kind of interesting.

Well, most of those numbers were for children and preteen males, remember; I don't see anything wrong with kids enjoying series like that. The popularity amongst the older age groups is pretty mind-boggling, however.

The SD Gundam numbers are probably more impressive since the series has been in repeats for a few weeks and still bringing in high numbers.

My family did some rating thing over a year ago. There wasn't a box, we just had to fill out a form for the week on what we were watching. Maybe it was for something else, I don't remember. Confused

Same thing.

Nielson website wrote:
To gather that local demographic information, we periodically (at least 4 times per year) ask another group of people to participate in our diary surveys. For these estimates, we contact approximately 1 million homes each year and ask them to keep track of television viewing for one week, recording their TV viewing activity in a diary. This is done for all 210 television markets in the United States in November, February, May and July and is generally referred to as the "sweeps".

Well i always stand up for Cartoon Network. I mean it was pretty gutsy to put that volume of 'adult' anime on what before was primarily a children station.

Excellent news. Kids, boys espcially, love those type of shows.

I don't see the problem with DBGT. It's not bad, just more the of the same with some Star Trekish space travel. I'm a faithful viewer of DB and was of DBZ but I do not like them enough to rewatch them. Everythings been done in DB and DBZ, so it's probably hard to squeeze more original content out of the franchise.

People dislike GT, yet wasn't Z created for the same reasons as GT?, to extend Goku's adventures?

Z was part of Akira Toriyama's original Dragon Ball manga (in Japan, if memory serves, the entire thing through Majin Buu was just called Dragon Ball). But when the anime was made, they decided to call the series Dragon Ball Z at a specific point in the series to denote the change in the series from an advanture-based anime to a fighting one.

The point is, this was all part of Toriyama's original DB saga. GT, on the other hand, had nothing to do with Toriyama, and was merely tacked on by Toei to milk a few more miles of yen out of the franchise. Not being part of Toriyama's concept, and merely the studio's "MAKE MORE MONEY! OMG!" creation, it was of far, far lower quality than the rest of the DB animation out there.

Ya wanna know whats really amusing about GT? It was a total flop in Japan and Toei probably lost alotta money from it, yet here in the US its hauling in ratings like mad.

Ya know what they say, another mans trash is another mans treasure lol.
