Kotono Mitsuishi was worried she couldn't live up to her earlier performance, but I say she's still got it.

Although her pitch isn't the same as when she was younger, I think Mitsuishi-san still delivers Usagi's voice very well.

In the name of the moon, I will buy you. Even though the anime is delayed, at least the figurines are coming up.

I'm... going to be perfectly honest and I'm probably going to be alone in this: It does not sound good. She just sounds... way too old for Usagi and can't do that pitch anymore. I realize it's partially because she hasn't done the voice in so long (besides briefly doing Usagi's voice at that event last year), but it almost seems like she's trying to make her voice horse trying to reach that pitch.
Now I'm starting to think maybe recasting her for the new anime might be a good thing. |

She also did voiceovers for some commercials back in 2009 when Animax was going to air the original anime and I noticed it back then too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ac3BD3iy3I0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PUxnV4Q1dyM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Q5yoNle9mo Though she doesn't sound too bad, I'm not sure she can pull it off for an entire series. |

Although it doesn't sound exactly before, it still sounds good and it will be nice to hear Kotono voicing Usagi again. Since its been a while for her to sound like Usagi, it reminds me of Mike Judge's Beavis and Butthead. Butthead still sounds the same but Beavis's voice is a pitch lower now. |

Wow, her voice sounds different, almost like she's straining to reach that pitch a little at times. Still, I'd rather have Mitsuishi providing the voice even if she struggles with/loses it a few times, than a new seiyuu that can't possibly hope to emulate the original. Still, I always wondered what a middle-aged Usagi would sound like. Childhood, now you know. Really though, I hope they can get the rest of the original cast to reprise their roles. Including my beloved Ogata |

She definitely sounds different, but it's not bad. I think it's merely a matter of getting used to it.
I totally never mentioned Beavis voice sounding different though. It makes sense that Butthead sounds the same. There were quite a few times where Hank Hill would say something and sound exactly like Butthead. The crying face is hilarious. |

Some of what I just read here kind of disgusts me. Is there some sort of implication that your characters are supposed to "grow up" with you in Japanese voice acting? I've been so disgusted with how 20-year-olds tend to get cast a lot more than experienced VA. It's like MTV or Disney Channel.
It's true that some VAs can't play younger characters (as talented as he is, I don't think Maurice LaMarche is meant to voice teenagers) but Tara Strong and Grey DeLisle, both of who are about 40 years old, sound fantastic playing teenagers. It's actually kind of hard for me to compare the original show because the audio quality for the Sailor Moon DVDs is pretty terrible/not very clear. |

In Japan, anime voice actors are often pop stars and models as well. Once they become too old they are no longer sellable to otaku. |

Then why do people keep saying that Japanese VAs are "so much better" than English anime (and sometimes cartoon) VAs? If dubs tend to use experienced people over new, pretty ones, then wouldn't that produce a better result? And it's not just trashy fanservice shows that do this. Plenty of mature, acclaimed shows (Eden of the East, Anohana, Madoka Magica, From the New World, Makoto Shinkai films) do this too. |

I'm not sure about Eden of the East, Shin Sekai Yori and Makoto Shinkai stuff, but Madoka and Ano Hana were aimed at otaku. They even have character CDs where the seiyuu sing songs that they sell separately. |

This is all I could think of. She sounded exactly like Hummy from Suite Precure and the commercial amused me. Yeah, she sound a bit different than the original series but she still sounds great.
She did Happy just fine in every episode of Suite Precure. I'm sure she'll be fine here.
Just because they're new doesn't mean they're inexperienced. These seiyuu are groomed and trained to be idols and stars from the start. They have to sing and do all kinds of other stuff so it's not like they just grabbed some new person off the street and stuck them in a booth. |
