I'm always glad to see people embrace Creative Commons, but it's kind of stingy, yeah. In the US, reviewers should be able to use some material anyway under Fair Use; I wonder what it's like in Japan?

...You don't want to know. In Japan, there is no such thing as "fair use", and to get pictures or information in articles, most Japanese organizations have to wait for days until they get permission. And even then, it's not "news" anymore because it's so late. It might seem like a small deal to Americans (or stingy), but this is actually a pretty big deal. Nakamura can't just offer it for free because she wants to- she has to go through her publishing company due to contract. |

The opening four panels make me wish this was available in the US even more.

Ever followed links to the Japanese Wikipedia? And wondered why it's so image-less? Well, try guess... |

You'd think there'd be a market for this somewhere.

Isn't the reason for this not being licensed the fact that the author is against it coming out here due to the controversy it would cause? I saw some panels and really it doesn't seem like it would offend any religious groups whatsoever, especially with the whole "girls think Jesus is Johnny Depp" thing, but given how areas of the US are insanely devout Christian they might take this as sacreligious...

It's crazy that America, the land of such violent movies and video games, would NOT be OK with a light-hearted, sweet, funny manga with two religious figures. Unfortunately, it would definitely happen. I could see Christian parent groups getting the book banned from libraries, maybe stores, maybe even protests... But maybe I'm giving them too much power. It'd be great if they'd be quiet. |

I seriously doubt the religious aspect would cause that much of a problem. After all, this is the land of South Park, whose pilot episode involved a fight between Jesus and Santa Claus. (Or was it Satan?) True, there might be a few people who get offended, but I'm guessing most people will care less.
Now, it is was something aimed at kids like Pokemon, then yeah, it might be an issue but this doesn't seem like something your average 10 year old would read. |

It's also the land where radical christians burned Harry Potter books because they promoted witchcraft. Never underestimate fanatics. |

Yeah shame that happened otherwise harry potter could have become a popular franchise lol. Seriously the controversy the series would cause would only get it more publicity but that's if it got the attention of anyone at all, I don't recall a big uproar over Robert Kirkmans battle pope and that was filthy. |
