I may be in the minority, but I actually really liked the recap. I thought it did a good job of placing Hiyori in the context of the group, and highlighting why she wanted to join the group and get closer to Tomoki. I agree that the recap was perhaps slightly too long (and the lack of Tomoko in those flashbacks was a disappointment), but on the whole I viewed it as a positive rather than a negative.

I myself hate recap films so even though they tried to put hiyori in to make it somewhat 'new' it was still boring for me to tread to. When the original content finally happened, I had forgotten what happened in that manga but I don't remember caring much for its ending regardless. At the end of the day this was just a reminder for me to stay away from recap movies of any form, even if its from a different perspective.

You shouldn't stay away from all, but I suppose that depends on your definition of recap. Would the Galaxy Express films be recaps or reimaginings of the major events? To me, recap films mostly mean using exact footage from a series, maybe with a slight reorder, and maybe with some additions. Otherwise, I'm not opposed to the likes of the Escaflowne movie.

I don't think you could possibly call the Escaflowne movie a recap movie. While that particular movie didn't interest me that much, I definitely appreciate when a movie decides to take concepts and characters but create a new story.

The worst part about the Heaven's Lost Property movie is that, as boring as I found most of it, I still can't help but be curious about what exactly is going on. It's been a general problem I've had with the franchise, in which the stuff I'm interested in (i.e. the nature of the world) is just present enough that I have to keep watching, and yet it's buried in a bunch of antics that I don't really care about or find particularly funny (although there are definitely some moments which had me laughing). And then when the next morsel I've been dying for arrives, I realize that I've completely forgotten the last one, and don't have the patience to go hunting for it.

The series producers have altered from the manga every season and even the movie wasn't free from it; the major changes being 1 spoiler[Nymph didn't activate her Pandora system] which's plot usage should come back in season 3 and 2 spoiler[Hiyori died - maybe. Probably not but...] which is a bit of a problem {Not because of that but because of what it meant for the rest of the story}. They already started the Chaos reboot at the start of the movie so it should be fun to see how much they have to change the story this time. {The manga chapters are numbered, it's not that hard}

Oh yeah 3 spoiler[The truck that hit Hiyori? It happened right in front of Tomoki in one hell of a splash panel] But that one only matters to the ... oh, right. It's a major plot point still.

It's still not as bad as placing the Nymph chapters out of order in the first season which ruined her character arc throughout the entire animated franchise. To borrow a phrase, oops.

Damn, really? What franchise was I watching? Well, I guess you do admit that's a bit of all that here and there in the show. In the real story, I love this series for all the above.

I do... I think you just don't find the people who do watch for those things, here, on ANN.

Are you referring to "in general" or "in this particular case"? Because I think you'd find that you're very, very wrong in the former case.

Not sure what you are referring to with "in general" and "in this particular case".

Well I knew today was going to be a rough day, but to start it off with the discovery that I apparently do not exist is still just a bit much. I think it makes a difference whether someone watches the anime because they're a fan of the manga, or only follows the desultory adaptations.

Obviously the anime have to be reviewed on their own merits, but when it comes to statements about the audience, such potential discrepancies require some consideration. I know it was just a harmless transitional statement so it's not as though I feel terribly offended or anything, but it still seems worth pointing out that yes, some of us really are interested in more than just the ecchi.

come on. i wouldnt say that the movie is that bad. sure it's not as good as the TV series. but the franchise is still a good ecchi series. sure its definitely inferior to Strike Witches and especially Queens Blade, but it's still a solid ecchi / fanservice series for any otaku.

the only gripe i have for the series is the name funimation gave it instead of leaving the japaneese name. it sounded a lot more cooler that way.
