Yeah, I think that we can deduce that, since they are publicizing the details of the DVD release now, they don't have any theatrical plans beyond extremely limited release, like what Sony did with Metropolis.

Not that I blame Dreamworks in any way... as one of the people at the world premiere, I can tell you that Millenium Actress is a very good film, but, as an animated film that is pretty much a love letter to Japanese films from World War II through to the late 80s (at least, the most recent movie references I got were Tampopo from 1986), it is *not* the Holy Grail of mature anime films that will bring in hundreds of millions (or even tens of millions) of dollars domestically from "Joe Multiplex" and "Jane Blockbuster", the mainstream adult moviegoers.

This is really further proof that there is enough of a domestic market for anime for it to make enough of a profit from DVD sales for mainstream film studios to pick up the rights to the big features, but it's still too niche to get a true wide theatrical release (not counting fad-based franchises like Pokémon and Digimon).
