And I was just thinking how I haven't heard Aya Hirano in anything recently. I mean I know she had all kinds of drama going on but she should have popped up somewhere.

Nope, we have heard of her every now and then...in some small roles that is, that is all she manage to get nowadays.
If you look around you will also notice that she no longer appears in any kind of popularity lists anymore, which further proves she was highly overrated, she is very talented yes, same as 98% of her fellow japanese seiyuu. Anyway she was a supporting character in Recorder, and she got a another small role in an upcoming couple minutes series if memory does not fail me... Guess ANN loves her so much, imagine if ANN reported of any new roles seiyuu get ?, this is one of the few places in which you can hear something of her, she has practically disappeared from the places where she was worshiped like a goddess. Let us know when she lands the stellar role in the next Sword Art Online or next Kyoani stellar moe series. Last edited by dan9999 on Wed Oct 31, 2012 7:46 pm; edited 1 time in total |

Menchi is hardly a major character.

1) That's an opinion. Technically, every VA/Seiyuu is overrated according to the logic your using there. Popularity polls mean jack in the long run. 2) You do realize ANN posts articles about VAs/seiyuus all the time, right? Anyway; I found Hirano does better in roles of characters with 'questionable' morals and ethics more so than she does with characters that are straight laced and goody-two-shoes but that might just be me. |

Aya Hirano has been working in a lot of non-anime productions recently. It feels like I'm hearing her voice all the time on TV, but that might be my impression. She's definitely a regular in one tv show though (and there she does a really good job voicing (switching between) different characters at the same time).

It's still very strange to use Hirano again instead of another famous VA, also considering her current social standing. |

I don't, but I am aware that she voices Lucy. Still, continuing to voice a character you always have and getting new roles are different things. |

*sigh*
Aya Hirano was forced to stop taking new roles in 2010 because she has a pituitary gland tumor that was giving her trouble, and so only took roles that were ongoing or reprising a previous role while she recovered. I know she's done some live-action work and restarted her music career, so she's probably just aiming for a mainstream idol career now and staying away from the hardcore otaku stuff. |

Sure, I just realized her english wiki isn't really up to date. One show is called Tokyo hi-Imagine, the other Teens Project and she's also in The Cooking King or something. Starting from 2013 she's going to play Éponine in the Les Misérables musical.
Also, rather than Idol, Aya is what's called a "Talent". All in all, she seems to be doing pretty well. |
