OUCH! I knew Natsuyuki was going to sell poorly but really not even on the dvd chart and 300 copies of the blurays. that is horrendous. the show wasn't good, but it wasn't that awful, I mean there are a lot of shows I wish would get that but NY R is not even in the top 50.

everything on noitamina this last season bombed hard (moyashimon returns got under 1000 bluray sells as well).

A show like that was only going to sell if it handled the drama expertly and evenly. It didn't.

Natsuyuki shows why these types of shows aren't made often with these sales.

And even then, it would be lucky to sell a few thousand. You'll never be able to compete with the top otaku anime no matter how good it is.

Women do buy anime... its why we have stuff like Uta no Prince Sama, Kuroko no Basket and other fujoshi oriented anime topping the sales charts. They just don't buy Josei anime.

Even if I watched it and thought it was clearly bad, I'm still surprised at Zetman's sales.

Now I wonder what will be the producer's thoughts about this:

*It failed big time cause it's a shonen-esque seinen. Not enough moe, little girls, etc.
*It failed because it was uninteresting, a narrative mess and very unfaithful to the source material.

I'd be inclined to think its the former... these really violent shows like that always do bad. Sure, theres different levels of bad (like Mirai Nikki averaging 1.5k, Deadman Wonderland and Blood-C both selling under 1k, Another selling about 2k), but the fact is that really bloody and violent shows just don't sell in Japan. Quality may have to do with it not selling over 1k, but I feel that the ultra violence hurt it more than any quality could have overall.

I'm very glad Humanity Has Declined is having decent numbers. Japan needs to produce more shows like this one. Very Happy

Everyone here keeps forgetting not always is about the disc sales!

Noitamina has been primarily about TV RATINGS!

Thou lately they have had some success with disc sales as well and seem to be doing some series aimed at disc sales, Natsuyuki definitely was not one of them.

The series itself was unpleasant thou, so no wonder it sell bad anyway, was a hell of an annoying ride, most of us that watched it only wanted it to end.
