Glad to see Blu-ray masters have been created. I wonder if Sunrise is hoping this set does well enough that they can begin a full revival with a new project or something...

It ended like it did. The better off the series stays dead, the better. Overhyped crap.

Oh dear mercy would I like to have something like this. If this set included the English dub, I might actually be sorely tempted to import it. I normally have no desire to do something like that, but this would be a singular, special case. I love Cowboy Bebop, but I don't own it and I've been waiting for a seriously badass edition like this.

Of course, what would be really great is for some company to create a version for the American market. A translation of the novel would be especially neat, but somehow, that feels like a longshot.

If an American release did ship, when would be reasonable time delay to not irritate the Japanese fears of reverse importation, a year? I definitely can't see many American fans importing this with no dub included, but I do expect some BDrip remuxes adding that dub back in... That doesn't really help the situation for those who want to own it. It's kind of dumb for Bandai not add the subs and dubs, even just a small look at the Western market would tell them how smart of a move that would be for all of these BD sets. You won't get thousands of foreign orders, but perhaps a few hundred, people will throw down for stuff they really want, and the the ridiculously overrated champion of "how anime used to be" [sarcasm] is a prime example.

530 bucks for the Limited Edition? I woulda thought the price would have come down a bit for a re-release of a nearly 15 year old anime.

Longer then that, I'm sure. Its topping the Amazon preorder rankings right now for all DVD/BDs, so its a significant release. They won't let it go over here anytime soon.

So....um.....since Bandai Entertainment isn't really around anymore, I wonder who's going to rescue-license the show (Sony maybe?...)

Why shouldn't the dub be included? HD versions of other series (such as Read or Die and Final Fantasy Advent Children) came with the English dub. I do think they may add the English dub to the Japanese release, even if they haven't announced it yet. And either way, if this BD comes to the U.S. in two or three years (one year is too early I think) there seems to be no reason not to add the English dub. It's already available and people look forward to it.

I suspect it'll be here around May of next year. Like you said, it's a 15 year old series which means this is nothing but profit for them.

The preorders will eventually taper off, giving them a strong indication of interest. After that, they'll definitely be turning their eyes overseas, considering how well these markets helped make it a profitable series 15 years ago. They'd be stupid not to.

However, when it does get here, don't expect a $50 price tag. This one's got $150+ stamped all over it, all because they know some of you out there want it that bad.

Start saving now.

As for me, I'm passing on it. I've seen it enough times that I'd rather start getting blurays of more recent series, like Gosick.

Exactly. I though the inclusion of the English dub would be a no brainer. If Haruhi Suzumiya and Durarara!! had their English dubs, shouldn't (the massively popular in the West) Cowboy Bebop deserve the same treatment.

I am disappointed with this releases. And another thing, is it not possible to make the aspect ratio 1:78:1? I would have considered importing this set if it had the English. Hopefully, it will be added in the end.

Bandai didn't include them on Escaflowne or some of the Gundam properties like the Endless Waltz film compilation, I don't think they'll start now.

Why would you want a cropped version of the show? If it was produced in 1:33:1, it should never be in anything else. That's what the cels were, that's what all video releases should be. Unless you're talking about including the side bars into that aspect, which makes no difference on a 16:9 set.

That would be pretty sweet to have but unless it eventually gets a reasonably priced NA release I'm sticking with my dvds. I'm willing to spend some coin, but 3 bills plus? No chance.

There is a potential the dub wasn't included on the Japanese release because it's being included in an R1 release, removing the Japanese soundtrack to get it here.

This isn't a fact. Just making an observation considering the news we've been getting regarding blurays of late.

That doesn't coincide with the budding idea of "we want the Japanese customers, and hopefully the Western fans to buy our expensive Japanese discs from the outset", which they could certainly pull off if this BD set included the dub and subs. Having a western release down the line means it'll cost at most a half of what the Japanese one will, if not much less. Old titles don't have this "gotta have it" mentality that new things do, it's perfectly reasonable to think someone will have a bit of patience if they get even a whisper of a cheaper international version. By not including the dub/subs, they're just screwing themselves out of some potential revenue.

NIS maybe, but Aniplex? No. They only release what the JP side has published and last time I checked Bebop is not an Aniplex property.
