Wait, does Himawari make an actual appearance on screen here? I think I remember one or two scenes with her on the telephone but I don't really her being physically present for this arc.
Regardless, even though I enjoyed these little stories I think I'll only buy the first part of Holic, just wasn't that fond of Ro over all.

Nope. She doesn't even on screen. Just her hair I think. I really liked what was Ro going to be with volumes 16/17 but the ending kind of disappointed me.

Not to be nitpicky, but here...
Quote: | As Subaru in essence “became” Soiichiro, Watanuki has morphed into a form of Yuko. |
I think you mean Seishirou, not Soiichiro.
Reading the blurb on the front page, I was thinking the Toyko Babylon gang showed up in this volume, and it confused me, since I didn't remember Watanuki running into Subaru or Seishirou. But I can see what you mean about the parallel between the two series.
And nasty as she was, I kind of liked the Spider woman, so I was pleasantly surprised to see her return.

Quote: | Damn it, why does Clamp give so many guys similar sounding names?!? My sisters and I even had a running joke about that...Soiichiro was the guy with glasses in X/1999, right? |
Close...his name is Seiichiro.
Quote: | I actually wouldn't be too surprised if Subaru and Seishirou showed up in xxxHOLiC, but the parallels are really interesting on their own. (My youngest sister maintains that Clamp has PTSD from writing Tokyo Babylon because they seem to keep bringing it up. ) For me the big question is if Yuko is Seishiro and Watanuki is Subaru, then who is Hokuto? |
I'd love it if they showed up in xxHolic. Unfortunately, though, I've finished xxxHolic, and they don't ever make an appearance. Actually, I first got into Tokyo Babylon and X/1999 because I was hoping there'd be more of an explanation of what the heck was the deal between Subaru, Seishirou, Kamui and Fuuma during the Tsubasa Tokyo Acid arc...but unfortunately, they were an alternate version of them, and their situations were so different that I didn't get any closure. lol. Fell in love with the series for their own sakes, though, and it's what started me really looking into all the other CLAMP series.
As to who would be Watanuki's Hotuko... in a milder form, since it was spread out between two people, I guess that could be Doumeki and Himawari, when they took Watanuki's blood loss and scarring from his fall out the window? The parallels certainly aren't exact, but it's the closest his story comes to that I can think of...especially considering (and this is a MASSIVE end-of-xxxHolic spoiler, so if you haven't finished it yet, you may not want to know...as well as being quite subjective, so your mileage may vary) Himawari keeps herself from visiting Watanuki except on his birthday pretty much from then on, and Doumeki marries Kohane-chan which almost has a "we both love him but all we can do is stay by his side, so we'll stick together and make sure our kids can take care of him as well" sort of vibe...and you can decide for yourself if the love they have for him is platonic or not. *shrug* It's definitely a stretch, though.

*Shriek of frustration*
That was about my theory on the whole Hokuto thing too, so good to have it confirmed. She is probably my favorite Clamp character and Tokyo Babylon was the first manga series to ever make me cry. In fact, I teared up just looking at the fold out insert for the last volume. (Did the English editions have those? I read it in French.) I assume you read Clover? That is my all-time favorite Clamp series and the French translation was so beautiful (and I'm a big enough dork) that I taped myself reading the first two volumes and choreographed my senior dance thesis to it in college.

Nice to know I'm not the only person that sees it that way.

Yup. They did. Unfortunately, I had the ending of Tokyo Babylon spoiled for me, so it didn't quite pack the punch it could have...

Oh, I like you!! That's awesome! Yes, I have - and love - Clover. I first saw it in Japan, and fell in love with the art and layout, but I didn't read Japanese well enough, and didn't have a lot of money anyway, so I had to refrain from buying it. I was so happy when I found out it was licensed in the States!
