There are quite a few surprises here. Looks like the K-ON hate is in, which I support, but the biggest surprises to me were Shana and Erio losing. But you know what? I like that. To actually have some new faces moving on instead of the same old same old is good to see.

But Erio and Charlotte are both new faces.

To me, it's more shocking to see Golden Darkness losing. And some girl from Jewelpet Sunshine (which I admit, I've never seen) beating out Anaru? Really? I thought Anaru was just as popular as Menma, if not more.

And how about those girls from TWGOK! They're unstoppable.

Really surprised to see Yuuko beat Shana. Particularly since Run and Tohru were far and away the more popular characters in A-Channel.

Nice to see K-on! and Shana aren't the reigning queens of moe anymore.

Also, is it just me, or does Charlotte look like Tadase from Shugo Chara? (pic for comparison)

Madoka isn't even the strongest girl from her entire series. Homura or Mami will do the best here

Wait, hang on. Why does Saten even qualify for Saimoe this year?

Jewelpet is incredibly popular in Japan, you'd be amazed. Haqua probably won't last long. She was likely there to ease up the competition by taking out Azusa. A K-ON! shutout is more or less guaranteed in Round 1 at this point with both Azusa and Yui gone. Ritsu and Sawako remain but Ritsu is against Kyouko (Madoka) and Sawako is against Miyako (Hidamari). K-ON! was going to get hit hard this year regardless because of a guaranteed returning appearance next year as well as Azusa being the champ last year. The Champ's curse continues...

Yamikan IV not existing this year is a sad moment.

Shana's lack of support this year really hurt her sadly. Nako losing is the biggest shock of all to Shirayuki. Now nothing stands in Mami's way.

Anyways, Saimoe is unpredictable as ever this year. I wouldn't be surprised at this point if we get a few "nobodies" in the quarterfinals this year.

Railgun OVA from last fall and appearance in Index-tan special.

Homura was eliminated on Day 1 by Misaka Mikoto from Raildex. I honestly think we're forgetting the OreImo triple that have yet to make an appearance despite the supporting cast's dismal performance thus far. Hanasaku still has Ohana (unless Minchi pulls through against Kirino) so I don't think Madoka is even close to being the 100% winner at this point. This is saimoe and anything can happen.

Them along with Hayate no Gotoku!, Hidamari Sketch, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, Ika Musume, Working!!, and maybe Nanoha will all return next year. Only ones missing here are Saki and Rozen Maiden.

Only the girl with the highest vote total (that has the asterisk next to it) in the group will advance to round 2.

Nako losing to Shirayuki is amazing! Glad to see Ohana move on though.

Yeah, I know. The new faces comment was more in regards to K-ON losing and Shana losing. Not in reference to Erio. I was surprised that she didn't move on. I also was surprised with the loss of Golden Darkness. But, I like that things are being slightly less predictable this year as opposed to last year when the only question was which K-ON girl was gonna win it.

When I saw Azusa has been eliminated I figured she went up against a heavy hitter like one of the madoka girls or an IS girl. But of all the TWGOK girls to lose to she lost to my least favorite?? Damn you Haqua, you are not helping yourself by eliminating my favorite K-On! girl.
