I'm surprised Yahiko ain't in there.

Here are my top favorite characters:

Himura Kenshin/Battousai, Shinormori Aoshi, Hajime Saito, Sagara Sanosuke, Seta Sojiro, Yukishiro Enishi, Myojin Yahiko, Yukishiro Tomoe, then Kamiya Kaoru. I also liked Takani Megumi.

Man. I remember when people hated Tomoe. Hated, as in, they wanted to utterly destroy her existence.

What happened?

@ John Casey & tuxedocat,

Was your first exposure the TV series or the OVAs?

Mine was the OVAs and the movie. I'm only now labouring my way through the 95 episodes (I'm up to 37).

The first survey was done before the OVAs existed. At that point Tomoe would have been little known. Kaoru is quite appealling in the series so I imagine Tomoe would have been treated by fans as the other woman.

In the final OVA and the movie, Kaoru is poorly portrayed. On the other hand Tomoe is magnificent in the first two OVAs. She is my favourite Samurai X character.

These days most people would come to the franchise via the deservedly acclaimed first two OVAs. The TV series is just too long. Hence, I'm not surprised at all that Tomoe is on top of the pile.

Go Saito!!

Though it is sad to see Sano drop off the list like that. I'm also surprised to see Tomoe take the lead.

This really makes me want to rewatch the series again. I'm really happy to see it getting more attention, it really seems like the anime world has forgotten about Rurouni Kenshin.

My first reaction was, of course, "Tomoe WTF?"

But seeing Battousai and Enishi making the new list...maybe people thought that was a way to say they want a Jinchuu arc animation.

What? How do people not see the charms of Kaoru? She's the greatest. And no love for Misao? Come on, people, this should have been a slam dunk.

I forgot Misao! I can't believe I did that, she is also one of my favorites.

I agree, and even though I watched the anime series first, the OVAs were definitely more memorable. So now after so many years, I can hardly remember the plot from the original anime (much less character specifics), but can recall the Jinchu arc quite vividly due to the huge impression the OVAs made. The animation was superior and the character portrayals were more poignant than even the manga original (a rarity). Thus it's no surprise to me either that characters from that arc would top the list. The OVAs made them difficult to forget!

"Now" list is pretty much OVA characters. Wink

Ahhh, I wanna watch RK again. It is difficult to pick favorites when there's so many chars.

Soujirooooo, Kenshin, Aoshi, and Sano pretty much tops the TV series chars IMO *nod*

She's a tragic heroine. Didn't you know that tragic heroines are the all rage these days? /sarcasm

In my opinion, I didn't like Tomoe as a character, but I definitely liked the relationship she had with Kenshin over Kenshin x Kaoru. And yes, the tragic heroine is one major factor. However, I definitely think Aoshi needs to be back up there.
