Apollo's Song is my favorite of the "mature" Tezuka stuff released in the U.S. so far. Truly a manga for the rest of us who just don't rebound easily, if at all-even better in that approach than Kirihito.

I really loved this volume of Tegami Bachi, probably because I became so emotional alongside with Sylvette and Lag, and laughed so much with Niche's reaction to Lag's question about if he ever lost his heart. The only sad part about this volume is that now we have to wait until February to get the next volume, and in turn finally get new material that wasn't featured in Shonen Jump before it was pulled to be graphic novel only.
Still need to pick up Suki at some point - I read about it in one of my CLAMP no Kiseki volumes and it seemed so cute, and being a CLAMP fan I really do want to get as many of the series I can get.

I tried so, so hard to like Apollo's Song (which describes my reaction to a lot of Tezuka's work, sadly) but I hated it. You felt the final third was bad? I couldn't get through the first third. It's the basic premise of the series that bothers me so incredibly much. Guy has pathological hatred of women and treats them horribly; how do we "fix" him? By subjecting him to dream scenarios... in which women are treated horribly. Face, meet palm. Goddamit, Tezuka, don't try to be a feminist, it's against your nature!!
I do need to read Tegami Bachi, one of my friends keep recommending.
Oh, and not to get on my usual "Koi Kaze is vile" stump again, but I don't really care how emotionally immature the "hero" of that series is; he's still a rapist, so I can't sympathize with him.

Wow Carlos thanks for posting my Reader recommendation and recommending the Koi Kaze manga (the anime is a masterpiece in my opinion) I really hope it could get licensed by say somebody like Last Gasp or Virtacle but I doubt that would happen. Also I read volume one of Apollo's song and in my opinion it's a mess it doesn't know what it wants to be and it's message sometimes becomes way too heavy handed in some parts.

I thought the whole point wasn't to sympathize, but rather to empathize. he's not doing a good thing, or the right thing, and he knows it. I think they both know it. He's not strong enough to do the right thing despite knowing full well what it is, and it's his overwhelming display of humanity that is basically supposed to hit you like a ton of bricks. You aren't supposed to go "gee golly, I guess in certain limited contexts incest is OK," or "Wow, life dealt him a crappy hand," but more like "We all have a cross to bear." Or something, anyway.
Personally, I don't think it was perfect or anything but it takes on a subject matter that most writers refuse to take seriously, and treats it with probably way more melodramatic gravitas than was really required. Which I think Anime needs more of, and Manga needs more in the mainstream, just the whole dealing with more difficult/ controversial subjects in a nuanced manner.

I thought the point was more akin to nobody was going to give you an easy answer or that there wasn't one. And that you had to do the intellectual "heavy lifting". I know when I watched the Anime I watched the last four episodes three times and in all honesty I couldn't begrudge Koshiro or Nanoka their relationship. I didn't approve of it but still felt "happy" for them if that's even a right term to use given the situation.

Anyone else finding it odd that volumes one and two of Demon Sacred are listed at 5.99 apiece, and volume three is at 10.99? Have they done this before, or is it a new tack?

The first two volumes of Demon Sacred were released at the same time (as Carlo mentioned) and at a cheaper price—I think Tokyopop's goal was to get readers more engaged with the series, with two volumes available instead of just one (and at a price that makes it easy to pick them both up at once). Volume three returns to the normal price mark. It seems like a new promotional move from Tokyopop, but I like it! I was definitely hooked by the second volume, and I appreciated the good deal—I didn't have to try to find a coupon or wait for a RightStuf sale to get some cheap manga :D
