LOL I like how they are hiring after a massive downsize. I am hopeful that they will maybe turn around their current ways of doing adaptations.

I wonder if this has any bearing on the recent rumour they were making a Solty Rei sequel?

Hopefully this is a good sign for the anime economy.

Considering they're going with newer technology, younger talent would likely be skilled in this while usually someone in a position to retire would mean they've been around a bit. Yeah, people CAN keep up with the latest advances, but they don't always so asking older, likely higher-paid staff to make way for usually less-paid new-hires makes sense.

With all of the bad news the anime community has had to deal with this week, it's nice to see some good news for a change.

This is good to hear. I've always liked most Gonzo projects. It was quite a surprise to see them in the credits of Crackdown 2. This could also be good news for Funimation as long as their exclusive agreement stays intact.

In the past year, Gonzo has been involved in several animated sequences for games, such as Crackdown 2 (Riot Act 2) and Arcadia Saga.

And BlazBlue! I didn't noticed it myself until I got to the credit sequence. There was a giant Gonzo logo scrolling across the screen.

In Japanese terms, "voluntary retirement" is a euphemism for resignation + acceptance of a better severance than if the person were laid off.

Basically, those who accept the terms are people who fear they're in greatest danger of getting canned (expendable skills, lack of experience, etc.) once the hatchet man arrives. Age doesn't have anything to do with it since the youngest hires are usually the most expendable.

I never completely disliked them.

But if it turns out their amazing plan is to whore themselves out to adaptations and cheap fanservice for quick-fix money, they can forget it. Gonzo has the potential to reinvent itself as a quality studio with fresh and original productions, and they should do that.

Gonzo are a very forward thinking studio. They appraoch the getting anime online part proactively, when others were quaking in fear.

Their looking to high an english speaker, might be a sign of emulating what Production IG are doing. The candidate would have to be brave to move out there and work though.

Good luck whoever apply.

If I though I had the slightest shot, I would try for it, I would move to japan in an instant, even if it was just for a year or two. but being 37, going back to school for computer systems tech, then moving on to an AA in computer science, I doubt I would even be considered, or worst, they would pass around my application as a joke in the office,

So Gonzo is not dead? I am glad about that. While they get a lot of hate, they did make a few series that I absolutely love - like Kaleido Star, but that was... a long time ago. I wonder which route they will go now?

Totally agree, I want to see them make a successful comeback.

I really liked their style and their focus on my favorite genre of science fiction for many of their most appreciated shows.

And they are also the studio that regularly uses Range Murata's art design which is another reason I want them back, his art has made for several wonderfully distinctive looking shows (Blue Sub 6, Last Exile, Shangri-La) from character art to uniform/clothing design to industrial set pieces etc. I want to see his art active again in anime series and would hate not to see those designs at work again from time to time.

They used to be one of my favorite studios and Last Exile continues to be one of my favorite shows of all time along with the other traditional big anime must-sees. Their originals always drew me in and with all of the crazy increases in adaptations these days, if done well their originals would be a huge welcome addition once again.

Seeing as they made one of my all-time favorite anime, Red Garden, I'm glad to here all of this. Fingers crossed everything goes well.
