..but I thought anime was going to die!
Just kidding. Had a listen to the full versions of both of these songs, and the ED winds up better than the OP...too much dissonance in the OP for the girls voicing it, I think. I can't imagine the girls in a minor key.
Anyway, the K-ON! juggernaut continues.

Never. Or at least, until it's licensed and when a stream license owner offers it to ANN.
EDIT: Wow, the OP topped the ED in sales? Guess the Japanese like listening to Alvin and the Chipmunks music.

I can scarcely think of a less deserving song than that OP. When a common first reaction is "Why is this thing playing on fast forward?" it's just not good. The ED is better, though the first season's ED was better than all of them.

Agreed. The OP theme is one of the most obnoxious pieces of music I can recall ever hearing in anime, and that's saying something.

Overall, the new OP/ED songs sound like a band exploring their sound. For as popular as the first OP/ED was; I think I like the new songs better; since it feels like they are taking chances with their sound.
The more I listen to Go! Go! Manic, the more I love it. And Listen!! feels much more fluid then Don't say Lazy.
EDIT: Also, no-hairclip Yui is the hottest thing ever.

I like the OP.... But then I like Fumi's songs in Polysics, Melt-Banana and Deerhoof, so I guess I have a high threshold for high japanese voices and distortion.
I will admit the vocoder work could have been handled slightly better though, it's a little rough.
It is undoubtedly a catchy song though, it's just the voice people have a problem with. And as it's been suggested, the Japanese seem to have a higher tolerance for it.

I actually like the OP more than the ED of this season. Not sure why people don't like it. There is no real reason to not like any piece of music since it is all personal preference anyway.
I think the ED's good, but I just prefer the OP.

Corollary: "If it weren't for my horse, I never would have spent that year in college."
My issue with the OP (aside from its insane tempo) is that melodically, it's all over the place. It sounds like the composer took three or four disparate songs and tossed them into a blender on puree.

"Listen!!" does sound better than "Go! Go! Maniac". Though it makes me wonder about the state of Japanese music and/or anime these days.

Yeah but the otaku have to buy it though, it's K-On which is the latest moe craze. Like there's an actual social obligation to buy it that I don't even think they've considered or could consider passing.

I'm a pretty big fan of K-ON! (by the end of the year I'll have spent around $400 on figures... ), but just can't get into the new OP. I think enough people have explained what's wrong with the sound, but even the visual on the anime feels like it's going in fast forward, it's just uncomfortable. Probably a good thing the OP starts a little ways into the show instead of kicking it off.
If you want a great OP with stunning visuals then go for the OP to Angel Beats "My Soul, Your Beats" (either the "Iwasawa" or "Yui" version, both are great). Hopefully GirlDeMo will be the second anime band to hit #1.
