Wow, thats a lot of plastic. I thought I heard that the amount of Gunpla sold thus far in the world would either stretch around the earth several times, or reach the moon. Either way, its shows how INSANELY popular Gundam is in Japan, since the number made is almost twice the population.

Sometimes I am baffled at how much people can spend on Gunpla(s). I am a huge Gundam fan but I barely have any money after buying the DVDs let alone enough to go buy a 1/60 scale Perfect Grade Gunpla.
This year, I volunteered at Anime Boston 2010. One of the volunteers in the group bought a Gunpla. It sure costs a lot since it was a Perfect Grade: $350+ plus sales tax which was at least $20. However, I am interesting in owning a 1/100 scale High Grade (Gundam) 00 Raiser - Designer's Color version. The main obstacle is its $50 to $70 price tag. |

I own some gunpla myself, but I'm afraid I'm not very good at putting them together. Most of them will fall into pieces if you blow on them and I can never get them to hold weapons to my satisfaction. I'm pretty sure I'm done collecting them!

Just about every adolescent Japanese male has a Gundam model in his home. I use to Gunpla back in my middle school Toonami days. Never quite got as, uh, "good" as I'd hoped.
Remember the commercial? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hJ60JkPXsA Mine's was "level 5: Incomplete, missing pieces, 3 hours of headache and just gave the hell up" |

Wow... That commercial brings back some memories. I remember buying the Deathscythe and Deathscythe Hell when I was still a kid. I never had problems putting them together because I was one of those model freaks until I started seventh grade.

So, in 30 years, plastic models went from $3.20 to $28.20. Incredible. Tell me again how the anime industry's losing money?
I'm being facetious. Don't answer that. Though I'm certainly not surprised at this news. After all, we are talking about a country where some in the population will also collect neck pillows and panties from a series. Weirdos. Oh, this reminds me. Time to dust off my figures. Gotta go! |

Not surprising I think.
My older brother buys at least 5 new models a year, last year he bought a perfect grade God Gundam model. I mean it's a interesting use of time building these things. He can build the tiny $20 models in like 2/3 hours given he has all the parts. |

Oh man. It's been forever since I bought one. I remember buying a number of those snap together plastic models when I was a kid. Good times

Better than getting into smoking or something. I'm just off to build some more of my 1/100 F-91 I just got. |

Just buy Master Grades. They give you all the detail and articulation you could desire and they're not exceedingly expensive. 1/144 High Grades until recently lacked a lot of detail and were just too easy, and PG's have a lot of price limitation. The 1/144 Real Grade line is coming up, but that scale is just too small to notice a lot of benefit. And unlike other collecting in, Gunpla is still modeling, a hobby which requires you to put stuff together and sometimes do modification to get things to look just right. It's and old and well-practiced hobby, the only difference Gunpla provides is that the models need to be able to articulate, so snapping pieces together was preferred over gluing. |

The plastic company who molds those Gundam models is definitely rich by now. I also have a collection of Gundam plastic models in my room. Although it is really an expensive collection, seeing them relieves me from work related stress. Structural Plastics |
