I'm not a fan of Twilight, but YES!! This can be a great gateway drug to other manga titles!

Can't say I didn't see this coming. I'm going to throw it out there that I'm going to assume this may end up being the fastest selling graphic novel ever that targets girls in US history.

I had heard a lot of people predicting that this wouldn't sell, because Twilight fans wouldn't care about 'comics'. I'm glad those people are wrong.
Anyway, this is great news. Twilight will hopefully be a good hook to get some female fans to start looking for more graphic novels. I realize it's a long shot, as it seems that fans of Harry Potter and Twilight just want to read those books over and over until the next big thing comes out. But there could still be some female readers who will start looking for more graphic novels made for them.
The fact that this book has sold so well is encouraging, and hopefully will make some people take notice that girls comics can be successful, and will hopefully lead to more female targeted graphic novels.

I have no clue how frontloaded something like a book can be, or if that 350,000 print run is for worldwide, but if it did 66,000 out of 350,000 shipped in the first week, those aren't the greatest of numbers.

Naw, that's pretty good. It's also something that probably has legs, hope it does well.

Anything associated with Twilight sells well with the tweens and teens.
It's hardly any surprise that I strongly dislike Twilight, what with its horrible and unhealthy messages for girls/teens regarding love, self-respect, relationships, and the like.
For example: We have Edward, a controlling, emotionally abusive vampire, who feeds her codependence by the truckload, and Jacob, an immature, violent-tempered shape shifter, uses her emotions to manipulate and intimidate her.
And I won't even begin on what a -rich; but the "church" gets 10%- wingnut Stephanie Meyer is.
Regardless of all that, I think the adaptation was a brilliant move for fans of anime and manga, as the industry can always use more customers. My one concern is: if this REALLY sells well, which all signs points to this being the case, then the rest of the industry is sure to take notice and follow suit. Everyone wants a slice of that money pie.
It'd be like the Moe-xplosion, only with angsty/stupid tweens, vampires and werewolves.

...how does this compare to the graphic-novelization of Maximum Ride, another novel that got similar treatment?

...this is so sad, yet so great.
It's a great day for comics and manga, but it sucks that it has to be Twilight when there is so much other good stuff out there.

Why is this even on this website, seeing as this "graphic novel" is manhwa, which is South Korean comics and completely different? The subject is not even Japan-based, being one of the worst, most commercialized garbage that's ever seen the light of day. What a waste of space.

This is just the mainstream girls' "shoujo."
Compare this to Japan's otaku novel-based loli-moe fad.

Not the biggest fan of Twilight. I posted a review on GoodReads when I flicked through it in a bookshop.
What a godawful adaptation. I read graphic novels very quickly, and I wiled away a good 10 minutes in a bookshop in my mall, just sat flicking through it. Yes, very stupid and antisocial behaviour, but, while it had the charm of the Twilight books, it had pretty wishy-washy artwork.
Unfortunately, the drawings are terribly static. And I mean static. They look stiff, and most movement is carried out through the use of speed-lines, the "I WILL USE A RULER TO SHOW THAT THEY ARE MOVING FAST" mentality. None of the characters show much emotion, which is okay, I suppose, as the same damn thing happens in the proper novel.
Many times, I looked through this and swore the artist had just copied the exact same drawing from a previous page.
Avoid if you like Twilight. In fact, just avoid this at all. I may seem callous, but Meyer is just running this cash cow on a treadmill until it eventually dies of exhaustion, i.e., the fad will die out. You mark my words, after the movies, the Twilight phenomena will be remembered as a curious piece of history.
That's my review of it. From only flicking through it, anyway...

Good for Yen Press! I'm glad their gamble paid off. More money in their pockets translates to more and better acquisitions later, I'm sure.
