For 20 grand, it should have projectiles at least.

for $20,000 I want it to do more than just stand there. It should be a least a working model.

For that kind of money it should fire it's punches, pop the Iron Cutters and fire the missile punch, and where're the Jet Scrander wings?
But I will admit it looks cool, although this apparently is a fancy metal version of a Jumbo Machinder. Last edited by Vicserr on Wed Mar 25, 2009 2:40 pm; edited 1 time in total |

Price tag: do not want
the thing: DO WANT. Too bad it doesn't have the wings. Those were awesome. It's a bit of a childhood idol for me, nostalgia is power, &c. |

No kidding...Talk about sticker shock. Memo to Bandai...a 2-foot-tall mecha you're offering for 20,400 in US$...in this economy? Not that financial/economic hardships ever stop the truly diehard otaku. And if you have that kind of disposable/discretionary income, more power to you. Guess that's one way to stimulate said economy. But still...damn. ![]() |

i wonder if these things actually do sell, i mean there must be some reason they're still making them.

Well, that's Bandai for you... they believe someone will pay outrageous prices for everything they produce...
Now, if this was like a fully working remote control model that you could make fly as well as do all the cool attacks with, THAT would be worth it. But for a slightly under 24 inch toy that is just a memorial statue... Well, I guess some rich politicians or museums will pick one up... |

If you believe that the price is huge, than this item is not addressed to you anyway...
As with all collective items, there is always a market for it. ![]() |

The thing is, if it sells, they'll make another one.

I'll have to take your word on that. The rationale behind spending such a drastic amount on two feet of carbon and metal is something I cannot fathom. |

Especially considering that, for around the same price, you can get a mass of carbon and metal that can actually drive you places. ![]() |

It's basically being sold as an art piece so I suppose the market is there. Personally I'd rather have a $20k hunk metal in the shape of a robot over a $20k square of canvas covered in dried paint.
![]() If I won the lottery today I'd own one of these tomorrow (or try really hard). It's definitely not a piece intended for regular people and just like with any rare collectible it'll certainly gain value. Emerje |

Mazinger Z is a show from the 70s, so many hardcore fans are closer to fifty than fifteen. That gives them more spending power as collectors, and this is strictly a collector/art item. How many do you think that Bandai has to sell to make a profit...2, 3 tops? Moreover, rationality has nothing to do with a market such as this. If people can collect ferraris, stamps and jewelry, they can certainly collect toys and figures. Not only that, but the investment could pay off the same, or more in the future... ![]() |
