"while Ichigo's confrontation with him is a beautifully tailored reversal of the usual tropes of the genre (including possibly the most memorable use of silence ever to grace a shonen series)."

I agree with that. That's probably one of my favorite scenes in all of Bleach. spoiler[When that same old music started again... "if ya want to see some actions, gotta be the center of the," I bet tons of people watching all rolled their eyes. And then it just stops, while Aizen stops Ichigo with literally a single finger. Definitely a memorable scene.]

It's true that sadly this marks the end of Bleach's high point. The filler arc that follows isn't that bad... if you compare it to Naruto's 100 episode filler fest, but it's not the best. Unfortunately, the original source manga has so far not really matched the heights of the Soul Society arc's climax in my view, so even once the filler ends, the series isn't quite the same.

On a side note, I seem to remember that when I first watched episode 60 on TV, there was a pretty big mistake in the dub. When Matsumoto confronts Kira and starts thinking about Gin, she thinks to herself something like "Gin... what do you want with this boy... what do you want with me?" in original dialogue and sub.

In the dub, she thinks "Kira, what do you want..." which makes no sense considering the Gin related flashback, and struck me as an odd mistake to make. Did they correct this in the dvd release?

I actually found the reunion of Hinamori and Aizen to be less compelling in the anime than in the manga because they chose to put it at the midway point of the episode rather than as the cliffhanger ending to an episode. Of course, they also didn't number the chapters in the volume releases of the manga to do this either... I mean, leaving people hanging on that scene of spoiler[OMG Aizen just killed Hinamori! (or so we think at the time)] would be more effective. But ah well. This is the high-point of the series for along time. I agree that the filler arc isn't all that bad compared to the average filler, but it lacks the punch of the canon stuff.

If by "eons" you mean "never again" then I would agree with you.

I'm totally with you on that. Whenever me and my friends talk about Bleach, we always mention this scene and have a good laugh off of it.

I didn't care for the first arc at all, and the Bount arc is boring, and pointless. If this were the show's only arc, I'd probably like it a lot more as a whole.

Truly a great end to the arc. Sadly, the next two arcs are "uuuuuugh"-worthy filler. Hopefully Viz will pump out that "Season 3" Box Set by June, at least.

It's sad, really. After this point, into the Bount arc, and by the time we get back to the real storyline again, the animation quality and pacing of the series has suffered so much that it's barely the same show. Three minutes of recap each episode, and padding padding padding, plus the bizarre filler episodes sprinkled into the main plot. It's these tragic dips in quality that has really let me down.

Not to me and to the people who watches it on AS.

So far compared to the Naruto fillers which i watch evenly, the bount arc does have some meaning to it unlike some of the filler arc. Also it is interesting to watch as well. Also so far the bleach fillers don't drag themselved like with naruto cause ep 33 did solve that question i had while reading vol 12 or 13. Not to mentioned their fillers are kinda funny, but not as laugh ou loud as the Kakashi's mask filler a.k.a ep 101 which everyone agrees it's the best filler epsiode PERIOD!

I have a friend who doesn't even like Naruto, but I made him watch that episode and he enjoyed it.

Viz has been mimicking the Japanese DVD releases of Bleach using the exact same covers, menus, episodes per DVD, etc.

The Japanese DVD of Vol.15 came with 2 discs. Disc 1 had episodes 59-62, disc 2 had the full episode 63 hour long special on it.

Question for people who own Bleach DVD Vol.15: The Rescue.

On Viz's release of this DVD, is it 2 discs?

Did they keep the hour long episode 63 special or still show the version shown on Adult swim where half the episode was cut?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

note: I found a post somewhere on cartoon-world's forum, some user posted in my thread saying it was only 1 disc and the full hour long special isn't on there. The whole first half showing DJ Kon reviewing the top 10 battles is not on Viz's Bleach Vol.15 DVD.
However...they did dub the shinigami golden cups (the omake at the end of the next time preview).

The Shinigami golden cup didn't start till episodes 54+

Sweet. I had lost hope for those ever since they didn't put the Shinigami Encyclopedia on their DVDs. (Make me proud Viz and get the Shippuden omakes as well).

I stopped watching Bleach shortly after this point, because the fillers were pretty bad and I just felt like it was better to marathon through them than to watch it one episode at a time. I'm going to pick up the [as] broadcast when it starts with the canon material. Hopefully, the drop in production quality isn't as bad as I've heard. Sad

I WANT TO SEE. D;

We've been getting this as the box sets come out fo sake of convenience, and fairly recently I had a heckuva great time marathoning the first two (first 41 eps) during two or three fantastic days. =D But now the series taunts me so with it's epic battles and fantastic conclusion to this arc, and I can't see it just yet. T-T

But soon Bleach, soon I will find you and we will be together again...!!

Really?? Cause I truly hope that's the case i would really like too see those dubs versions of the soul reaper golden cups, especially that one of soi fon giving out the info on her former teacher and ichigo was litteraterly pissing in his pants afterwards about grabing her tail. then there's the acarrnar files as well. that i really want to see in english.

Same here. the one i really liked was the shippuden info of the 5th during epsiode 6 or 7 i believe. that part alone made sakura a junior clone of the 5th, and just like pervy sage, naruto got the wrong end on both of them.I hope they bring out the english dub version soon,if they bring it out that is. Also the drop in production quality is overrated. It ain't bad at all so you don't have to worry.

Ah, so it's THIS part of the series, yeah it was very emotional, actually the whole 'soul society invasion' arc is probably the most powerful one animated so far period. All the other ones after... they have more GAR moments and stuff but in terms of actual drama nothing comes to mind.

Reading your review I agree with it for the most part, but LMAO about this part,
"lots of sad back-stories given sad flashbacks with sad music."

I quite like the Bount Arc. It tells a coherent story which makes it quite easy to tolerate(compared to your usual filler, like in Naruto). Since the Bount Arc introduces many extra characters, it allows Bleach to actually kill a few of them for once(Bleach is renown for its "no one dies in Bleach" reluctance to kill anyone). Makes things more interesting knowing some characters can and will die. You should drop your predisposition against filler and watch it anyways.

Personally I found the Soul Society Arc to be slow-paced and formulaic, especially since the infamous villain twist had been spoiled by mouthy subbers on internet forums when the arc started. That just left the SS Arc to just a bunch of drawn out fights between random people for me. Since people don't talk much about the follow-up filler arc, I found myself much more engaged in not knowing what would happen next.

I hate the canon excuse too. Anime canon is anime canon. If you want the manga canon, read the manga. I hear a few characters from the Bount Arc crossover into the so-called canon(anime canon) after the arc is done, which blurs the canon line even further.
