You didn't read that the download to own requires a subscription, and some revenue does find its way back to Japan. The Japanese companies wouldn't be doing it unless something was in it for them. |

You got that right. The Japanese companies are making an absolute killing off the download to own section, which is why so many companies are jumping on Crunchyroll's bandwagon. The subscription service is for the non-download-to-own content, the ones you CANT download.

Since I am no longer a member of Crunchyroll, I had no clue that they actually stop people from downloading anime, subscription or not. Ah so they do make revenue, that is good to know. |

still feels weird seeing Crunchyroll go from being the bane of the anime community, to the official go-to site of big anime companies. most site owners get arrested for what they were doing.

Youtube and Veoh's site owners got arrested? I think you should look into the safe harbor provision of the DMCA. Hosting user-uploaded content is not illegal as long as one takes down copyright-infringing content by request, which is what Crunchyroll does. |

If you have the most recent RealPlayer Windows software installed, you can easily download any video shown through a flash player, it's one of it's features. I don't think this can be stopped. I was a CrunchyRoll subscriber for about half a year, and early on some videos could be downloaded for an extra fee straight from the website. Not sure if they do that anymore. |

yes youtube wasn't charging for their services. Veoh does have an HD service, but they have deals with the companies to host their material, just like Hulu. |

And I hear of you don't pay you get commercials...either way the Japanese companies are making money.
Do you want to know who ISN't beniffiting from this? American distributors. If Funimation and crunchyroll would merge that would be killer...but then they could also be each others competition. |
