I read the first chapter, there is a reason why i dont like mainstream American comic books. The story telling is crappy.

As usual, I liked Takei's art, but yeah, the story and scripting were kinda subpar. I'll wait and see how the serialization goes.

Geez, it took long enough! I really liked the preview chapter, but the total lack of ANY news on it since then had me a lil' worried it didn't suceed like they wanted and the plug got pulled. I look very much forward to seeing the full version come out.
As for 'storytelling'... I liked the funny text boxes. It's like a manga with a narrator, and I like what that adds to the story. Take Ultimo's entrance, for example- those extra bubbles help with imaging the character, especially in a black and white comic (I can name more than once when a manga character suddenly appeared in color with some wild hair color I didn't expect.) It puts a different edge on the mood than what you'd get normally. For those who might complain about story quality- it's a Shonen manga, not Shakespeare. I think it's meeting expectations, and who knows- maybe with time it'll grow into something really special. I just hope it's not too long a wait before we find out..

You do know the story telling is by a Japanese right? Takei did the scripting and drawing himself. Stan Lee didn't write the script. He just came up with the original idea. Stop finding excuses to bash American comics due to your own narrow and limited tastes |

Not to support cetriya's bashing of American comics, but it was stated in an interview that Takei was intentionally trying to do the storytelling in an American style. And that being said, I don't really go for mainstream American comics either, particularly because of the storytelling. I think switching writers and artists all the time really hurts the cohesiveness. There are some really great graphic novels out there, but Lee is associated with the mainstream superhero stuff. You may call me narrow and limited, but unfortunately, my wallet is narrow and limited too, so I have to be choosy. |

Listen to all the snobs poo-poo a collaboration with mainstream American comic designers. What you fools don't understand is that to them, Stan Lee is a god. He represents everything they aspire to: multiple serializations, lasting for decades, spawning multitudes of franchised merchandise. This is why I tell all my friends that series like Naruto are here to stay for this decade and the next. If you believe that Kishimoto is going to give up a cash-cow like Naruto for the naive Japanese "artistic tradition" of wrapping up a story after a set amount of time (~10 years), you are smoking crack. They work with creators like Stan Lee because they want to be like Stan Lee. The Japanese work ethic values long term success above artistic integrity. Welcome to the 21st century, where traditional assumptions about anime and manga will continue to be thrown out in favor of a bold new world. Expect much more collaboration with the west and much more in terms of blockbuster series which are around for the long haul.

first off, I have nothing against american artists (this is why I added mainstream), second I wasnt talking about the premise I know its a typical shounen thing.
what i'm talking about is the way in which the story is told. I dont mind narration boxes, but dont write the character's expression, show it. I need to see the action not read about it unless its a novel. Dont confuse storytelling with plot. Every thing has been done before, its how its told. I could say the same with Death Note, it had a great premise but I didn't like how it was told. Where in my posts does it show elitism? Did I say it would have been a better comic with out Stan Lee? That manga shouldnt be tainted? Or that the american mainstream comic industry is just trying to get into the manga scene? Nope, just took the comic as it is, I like the 'plot' that is has so far but dont like the telling. I know that anime/manga community tends to have a lot of bs haters but dont assume every negative response to non japanese productions as hate posts. Have any of you checked out the Gallery articles? I my self strive to be an artists, it would be hypocritical to hate my own kind.
