Mine was Char’s Counterattack, though I had read synopses of the original series and Zeta before I saw it.

My first Gundam was also Wing but if I were asked to explain the plot, I would be mostly silent. I think the next ones I watched once internet became accessible were SEED and Zeta. Still, the change of style with Double Zeta almost made me want to quit. With Netflix acquiring 79's movies, I watched it as soon as it came and I was entertained enough to rewatch but as the TV series.

My first Gundam I've watched was Gundam Seed <3
What I didn't expect is to not see Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans in the rankings. It is one of my favorite universe too

1979's Mobile Suit Gundam, because it was on Adult Swim around 2002 or so. There was another one on AS then, but I don't remember which one. Just that it took a while for me to figure out that there was more than one continuity.

Interesting to see how many people started with Wing too, because of Toonami.

Mine was the OG series, but I was technically introduced to it through Dynasty Warriors Gundam for the Xbox 360. I beat the game 100% before realizing it was a licensed property, and then watched the OG before making my way through the rest of the series in the UC with the exception of the second half of both ZZ and Victory because I couldn’t find complete English subtitles for the show, then made my way through the rest of the series up until the most recent release at the time Gundam 00, with the exception of Turn A which I've never been able to get into.

You need the magic.
Likely that was 0083.

Mine was, technically, the Gundam movies, in a recorded-from-TV VHS in a summer sale in the Japanese School at my city some 30+ ago. Then,as an official release, the 0083 movie.
In any case, it surprises me how little impact IBO had, bundled with Rencoguista, Turn A, X, V. SD… or even Build Fighters.

00 was the first I "watched" watched, but my real first experience with Gundam was fast-forwarding through multiple episodes of the Toonami edit of SEED in order to get to Venture Bros. quicker on my VHS recordings. I saw the Disco Guns firsthand and I didn't even realize it...
