Man, that's messed up for scalper to charge something that was originally for free, and trying to take advantage of the anime's fandom to get these neat stuff.
Is there a way Japanese pharmacies with whoever handle this memorabilia can do another re-print of it and make sure many fans can get this without scalpers pulling this crap again. |

Those are cute prescription record books. I would imagine younger people would use an app on their phone to track their prescriptions. It’s so much easier and more convenient than having to carry a book and pen with you everywhere.
Also, the scalpers are scum who should be held legally accountable for profiting off someone else’s work and expense. |

There’s this absolutely nuts economy that’s sprung up around fan merchandise in Japan and while I don’t like the scalpers doing it, I can understand why it is done. I’ve seen merch for popular series like Haikyuu and JJK having so many collaborations and merchandise that’s limited edition. Then there’s places in Akihabara that sell it off for $100, because this can badge of Gojo was only given out at a theme park in August 2023. Or this coffee mat, acrylic standee, paper craft, plush, etc.
There’s also the fact that a lot of these goodies can come from exclusive things like crane games (for a limited time), or kuji (lottery), which you can mostly do online but which sometimes require going to a physical location. I mean… easy way to make money, because fans are very devoted and many of them spend a whole bunch of money on their oshii characters (favourites), before moving on to the next fixation. It makes you wonder how much of this stuff is produced under bad conditions in factories across mainland Asia, and how much of this fan merch will one day end up as landfill. I once saw a whole range of Prince of Tennis plushes in a UK charity shop (Goodwill for the US), and considering how much stock they have to waste if it doesn’t sell, and the carbon footprint of those items having originally been shipped over from Asia… Certainly something to think about. |
