What a Nice Surprise Indeed. Hey Saeryen, can you think about Rebecca Reviewing You and Idol next when it comes out?

I legit have to thank Rebecca for doing this. She's the real deal, I think treating Precure like any other anime ANN reviews helps normalize it and help it succeed in the west.

I always vote for the Pretty Cure shows in the polls, but they don’t often get picked

LET'S GO!!!!
Glad to see this nice surprise. I though for certain that it was going to be ignored after what happened (Basically Crunchyroll didn't license the show until a week after the first episode came out meaning it completely missed both the Previews AND the voting) Glad to be wrong, though.

One thing I've noticed with the whole time theme is that we've now had two scenes where an older person acknowledges they're aging and Liko looks uncomfortable about it - the broommaker talking about retirement and apprenticing Mirai in episode 2, and then Mirai's grandmother and her injury in episode 3. Looks like both our girls are a little uncomfortable with the passage of time.

So far this is suffering from one of the problems of the original show: a villain who, in an attempt to play your cards close to your chest and be mysterious, is instead just vague and boring. Doesn't help that appearance-wise he's like the second coming of Red, the worst villain in all of Precure.

Hisui figuring out that Mirai and Liko are concerned for her because they see her as a daughter was really sweet. I just wish it was given more time to build up. Girls, you've only known each other for 3 episodes!
I guess that's just how it's gotta be when you only have 12 episodes

So Crunchyroll titled episode 4 which is "Hisui's Secret" as "Hisui's Secret February 1 Broadcast", that changes the nature of everything. I thought we were going to have a pirate radio broadcast.
So we know Hisui is some kind of fairy, I wonder if Hisui is the final boss of this. Like a reverse Queen Nehellenia in the Sailor Moon Stars filler arc. Is that where this is going, as she grows and regains her memories is she the main enemy?

I'm wondering about how Ha-chan's always been described as "the inheritor of Mother Rapapa's power" rather than a reincarnation of Mother Rapapa or something, and wondering if Hisui herself isn't a reborn Mother Rapapa or some other sort of offshoot... but without the power that Ha-chan inherited. This episode has Hisui wondering why she doesn't have magic like Ha-chan does, in a sort of parallel to Ha-chan wondering why her magic operated so completely differently from everyone else's. (Strictly speaking, Ha-chan had closer to Deusmast's muho/"mugic".) When she finally does use magic of her own, Ha-chan appears to her, and afterwards Hi-chan still can't perform simple magic.
Speaking of Hi-chan as a nickname, the girls are definitely treating Hisui as a substitute baby Ha-chan down to the nickname. It explains why they've so quickly adopted her on their end (they were already pretty quick to take responsibility for Ha-chan when they were preteens,) but I think they're starting to realize they can't just take care of Hisui the way they did Ha-chan. They're VERY different people, and the world's changed a lot in five years... or, you know, the almost ten it's ACTUALLY been. On top of that, Hisui's growing much faster than Ha-chan did, but unlike Ha-chan, Ire suggests her mind's not growing at the same rate. (Now, grain of salt and all that because it's Ire, but Hisui has seemed to be pretty consistent in her temperament compared to Ha-chan as she grew.)

Great to see episodic reviews of Precure here- I hope you can do Idol as well!
I wonder if Ire is a librarian or archivist instead of a bookstore clerk.
