"Without fanfare" is right. If not for this review, I wouldn't have known Crunchyroll even had it available.

I'm wondering if the screwed up English release is why they decided to hand Anno the keys. Call a mulligan and have Shin Yamato get everyone's attention.

With this out hopefully 2205 and 3199 can get a BD release (and the movie too while they're at it). I've got 2199 and 2202 from Funi on the shelf and it'd be nice to have the whole series on there.
.....
Actually looking online quickly it looks like 3199 is still in production, so maybe we can get 2205 and the 2199 movie and then go for 3199 later on? lol

Well, thank you review for letting me know Crunchyroll was finally streaming this!
Honestly I thought 2199 did a great job with Kodai and Yuki's romance though her amnesia arc in 2202 was pretty frustrating. Not sure as a fan of their relationship whether this season will satisfy me, but I'll always root for these two to be together!

Second chapter of 4 episodes of 3199 only came out in November, and the next is scheduled for April. The first two chapters (Episodes 1&2 and then 3-6) came out on Crunchyroll a week after they were released as a joined movie.
Given how long it's been since Oddysey of the Celestial Ark (or as I prefer to call it, Ark of the Stars) was released in cinemas, seeming reluctance of CR to pick up movies, and the fact that the JP release (which is still in print and can be bought from online retailers) had English subs on the Blu-Ray, I'm sadly doubtful it will ever get any release on Crunchyroll or Blu-Ray (Crunchyroll, I'm more than happy for you to prove me wrong, as this is a very good and original story, which carries on some of the lore building established in the 2199 series and gives Yamato an early fight against Gatlantis, which sets up the opening storyline in 2202). I remember it being so good that I saw it twice on the opening day, and at least once after that, while I was in Japan for the premiere.

I always found the dragging on of things between them in the original Yamato saga frustrating.

That happened a decade ago. They've released multiple series in Japan and in the rest of the world since then. The Anno project is specifically a project for the 50th anniversary of the original Space Battleship Yamato series. Plus, why would a bungled English release stop Japanese productions going forward?

I really wish they continued dubbing the series but I guess that's too much to ask of Crunchyroll these days.
