my most respected dev team. They allow a lot of freedom & don't rush projects and make some of the best open world games that make you feel small.

Well, if you're gonna be owned wholesale, might as well as be with the company who's shown incredible patience at you.
I mean seriously, if Monolith Soft was bought by any other gaming corporation, they'd run it to the ground for a quick dollar. While sitting on the IP for years and doing nothing with it.

Makes sense for Nintendo because, unlike PlayStation and XBox, first party RPGs don't really seem to be their thing. Fire Emblem, Pokemon and Paper Mario are technically made by third parties, even if Nintendo exclusively publishes all their games. Still doesn't make up for losing Final Fantasy back in the day though.

Intelligent Systems and Game Freak are 2nd party developers, actually.
But yeah, it stinks FF games starting with 7 got sidelined on Nintendo systems for a long time.
