My only criticism with these reviews so far is not mentioning the humor in our local failguy repeatedly declaring "Date Chizuko!" whenever he mentions her, with a seriousness quite incompatible wirh him. Gosh I love Chrome too. This show is a blast and I hope it does well.

It's reasonably entertaining, but feel like it could be made much tighter if they buffed up a bit the story. Instead of just being villain for...? I dunno. Maybe make it instead the evil organization is doing product placement every time they do villainy, and that's their goal. So they want to be defeated in spectacular fashion, just so their loss get shared widely and the sponsor are happy. Maybe tie this up with Chizuko needing money for some reason (maybe grandpa is about to lose the house) so she has more of a reason to join and make a bunch of revenue.
This would give them more joke avenue and could help fill the long jokeless downtime that occur most episodes. |

I adore this show so far; I'm so glad I gave it a chance. All of the dumb little jokes and the Kuma Kaijins' goofy design are just wildly funny to me. And the voice cast truly are doing a phenomenal job. I really hope this accumulates a decent viewership this season.

This show had me crying laughing at it, the deliveries are so good and I'm a sucker for a super fan who is a mess. I also love pretty blonde men who are cry babies so this show is pretty much tailor made for me.

I'm so happy to hear that you're also rooting for this little-series-that-could.
Was also WAITING for your inevitable Demon Girl Next Door mention. I'm also a fan of DGND and it's the easiest comparable series to me for Acro Trip. Gotta love the amazing voice acting, ridiculous humor, and fun magical girl meta-humor in both! |

Huh, this ep got the biggest laughs from me so far - in fact, Grandpa casually offering to ditch the cops in his kei truck made me laugh harder than anything in a long while. BB octo-wielding her knockoff wands was also pretty great.

Yeah it was the opposite for me too, I laughed out loud at this episode more than any other one.

This episode was the best, not only because it was the first I caught on time (I binged the episodes prior to this one) but because it wasn't trying to be skeevy (I find the scene where Chizuko calls Chrome a hentai at the cafe in ep. 1 a bit problematic and that ended up colouring my impressions of Chrome later on).
Aside from a few misgivings, I'm having a blast with this - the characters are a disaster and a half (I mean that in the most affectionate way possible) and it helps that I like long-haired men like Chrome (he was a major factor as to why I ended up binging the series in the first place...although I wish they'd explain where Chrome got his scar from, since he has it in the flashback scene in ep. 1...). Some other things people might want to know: - This sample of the manga reveals aside from some inevitable changes in the jump to animation, the anime is quite faithful to the manga. - Also, presumably the reason the series is set in Niigata is because there is a Fossa Magna there in real life. |

Yeah, same: Episode 5 might have induced the biggest laughs from me so far. I loved that Chrome's low-magic Kuma Kaijin were not only feather-light, but also pale in color, as if they had been produced by a printer that's low on ink. And not-Amazon being called Danube instead was hilarious to me. I guess I particularly appreciate trademark/copyright jokes that do that little bit extra. (Skip and Loafer's "Pomeranian Rhapsody," anyone? )

I definitly like this series so far but I do wish it leaned more on the original premise of the show. I love the idea of a magical girl fan helping the incompetent villain so that the magical girl can look good fighting an actual threat but apparently this show has no interest in exploring that idea more.
Which is fine, the show is still fun but man do I lament them not going all in on the original idea. |

I just wanted to hug little Chrome when it was revealed that he wanted to become a villain so that spoiler[he wouldn't be lonely anymore].

On first watch, I actually didn't catch the fact Mashirou and Mashima (I'm going to take an educated guess that's the full name of "Ma-kun", based on the next-ep preview) have similar...colorations. I was too busy 1) cackling at the episode and 2) investigating how to read 玄実クロマ from the end credits, since it's the only role which says "elementary school student" in brackets after it (...but the next-ep preview gives that away, too - and I'm spoilering this since it seems to be leading up to some kind of future development - spoiler[since クロマ is "Chrome", that means Chrome's surname is "Kurozane" - note present day Chrome is listed as クロマ without a surname]). Also note "Ma-kun" doesn't have a voice actor listed in the end credits of this episode.

What? Only 3 and 1/2? Are you rating Ranma? I gave it a full 5. At least it deserves a 4 for how batty everything is!

Theory spoilers, since you also hid your theory: spoiler[I actually picked up right away that the kid sounded familiar, then once they called him "Maa-kun" it clicked; the name, the voice, the color scheme, the eyes: he's Mashirou. Then later in the episode the other villain was turned into a fish, so Mashirou most likely became a member of the organization like he dreamed of in the flashback and was turned into a cat at some point.] |
