Can't believe he microwaved the entire carton of milk...

I've been really appreciating the dessert porn

This was one of the shows I was looking forward to this season. It looks absolutely beautiful and feels soothing to watch. But it also gets dull at times. They really just spent half an episode trying to figure out how someone was able to make hot cocoa a certain way, and...

...I'm not sure Kengo intentionally created that mystery; maybe that's just how he prepares food/beverages.

That said, I'm still interested in the overall story, especially regarding the main characters' desires to be ordinary, whatever that might mean to them.

I also dont think he set it up on purpose, becasue it was his sister that made a big deal of it. Kobato and Osanai had no reason to go to the kitchen until the sister brought it up.

It's almost like the whole point of the show is looking at completely ordinary and mundane things from a mystery angle.

Aren't you not supposed to heat milk cartons because the internal coating breaks down?

That aside part of me feels like this show would benefit from going full Monogatari/Shaft. Double down on the boring-ness of the mysteries themselves by having the show itself be needlessly flashy, you know, go CSI on that milk carton.

Yeah, Osanai's bike is definitely gonna tie into an underlying mystery. The most interesting thing to me about the series so far is why the various characters want to change and in what ways they can't. Kengo wants to be more helpful but is hopelessly blunt and overbearing, while Jogoro wants to be "ordinary" - whatever that means to him - but folds before the slightest pressure to solve mysteries.

Hopefully Osanai gets to enjoy a sweet without any war crimes one of these days.

It all looks the same by the time it reaches the wastewater treatment plant.

Short review:
- If you liked Hyouka watch this.
- If you didn't like Hyouka don't watch this.

Now can we get the important matter at hand: is Eru Chitanda or Yuki Osanai the better waifu? Wink

Why didn't they just ask him?

Or wait, is this what they meant about needing to become ordinary?

For three 6 oz cups that was pretty much the whole carton anyway, assuming he wasn't first to open it and left a bit behind to return to the fridge. But yeah, maybe the secret to the taste was the melted wax.

Apparently all the boys love Saint Osanai, Kengo being Devil's minion.

I love how they're wracking their brains around such a mundane and silly mystery because Kobato is a mystery nut and Chisato (Chika Anzai with another Chisato) has too much pride as a big sister to give her brother any credit while Kengo is just chowing down on cake none the wiser.

Also Osanai is an undeniable Hina Yomiya cutie in any outfit and she doesn't deserve getting scolded for a crime committed against her. I know there's that collective sense of responsibility, but come on. Girl lost her bike and her sweets. But I like her dynamic with Kobato.

Chitanda is the answer to this, and many other similar questions.

Details like this are why you're simultaneously my favorite reviewer and someone I think I'd have a fun chat with, and super glad you dont live in Sydney because I think you and my wife together would be terrifying and full of dictionaries and various other heavy tomes being strewn about while I receive many a lecture on language and culture.

See after this weeks episode:
spoiler[Im kind of afraid Osanai is a serial killer or something, and Kobato knows and is having them stay ordinary so she doesn't just go on a murder spree. The whole sequence that flipped to the sunset on the bridge thing was very creepy. ]
Which I kind of hope I'm right about, but presumably this is all crazy person thinking.

...Right?

From just having seen the first episode so far - yeah, I'm into it!

I was not sure for about the first half where this was going, but watching the character interactions by the second half started hooking me in. There is some subtle chemistry going on. I'm curious where it goes. Definitely not for everyone, though.
