Never heard if the artists suffers health issues but he keeps doing weekly style. Saint Seiya Next Dimension had a really aged author too which led to longer hiatus. I think Frieren's did two volumes before the previous hiatus last two seasons reaching 13 volumes. You guys think Madhouse will announce a second season if they reach a 15th volume of content? At least Wit Studio had no problems with Spy x Family having 2 seasons and a movie when the manga was around 11 volumes.

This is ignoring the fact that Masami Kurumada was also making various other manga in between Next Dimension's numerous short runs for literally the past decade (Otoko Zaka's revival, Saint Seiya Episode Zero/Origin/Destiny, a few Fuma no Kojirou-related manga, Ai no Jidai, etc.), so Kurumada was ALWAYS making manga of some sort when he wasn't making Next Dimension. Sure, between 2009 & 2014 he had those long hiatuses where he wasn't doing much if he wasn't actively making more ND, but the past decade has been anything but that.

As for Frieren's artist, all the best to them if they need the extra time. I've only read the first couple volumes or so of the manga but it's an excellent drawn title & is a proven hit, so I think both sides of the creative duo behind it have earned the ability to take their time, if need be.

Didn't realize it was weekly, considering the number of pages and how detailed they are Yamada and Abe must be superhuman.
