The week after Edens Zero ends. I suppose that's way of Mashima winding down to focus on 100 Years Quest and Dead Rock.

How does the original series get a one shot when the sequel series is on-going? I haven't read it, but doesn't it feature the same characters?

It does, and it even picks up immediately after the last chapter. But it's drawn by a different artist while Mashima is the storyboarder, so this one-shot would be the first Fairy Tail project done entirely by Mashima since the original ended seven years ago (not counting the short crossover manga).

As for the story, I know of an Ex-Twitter Space where he mentioned what his next Fairy Tail project(s) could be about. One of those ideas was a story about Ankhselam, the mentioned-but-never-seen antagonist behind the main antagonist, which could work. I have no idea if that's what he's doing here, though.

Kind of curious what it'll be about with 100 Year's Quest still going on.

Now what could the story be about when a sequel is currently being released. I understand Air Gear, for example, doing this, but this will be interesting.

Ah, ok, it makes some sense if 100 years is being done by a different artist.
