If the animation is that good, I'll have to take a look at this one, even if I wasn't orginally interested in it.

The reviewer if being too harsh and hateful with this show. True, there isn't much of a story yet, but the show is trying, and the premise has potential.

I came into Atelier Ryza cynically thinking that it was going to be all about those thunder thighs and short shorts, but I have been pleasantly surprised seeing that the show wants to develop it characters and story.

I think I have similar thoughts to Richard on this anime, except with the opposite conclusion. I’m watching the show despite never playing the games because it’s a reasonably well made fantasy anime, and I’m a big fan of the fantasy genre in general. However, I’ve been liking that not much has really happened plot-wise so far. I like having one or two shows per season that are relaxing without any intense drama or action, as they are things that I can just watch whenever, without needing to focus heavily. This show fits that niche perfectly for me.

Yeah, it's pretty obvious that this one is just a very barebones cashgrab adaptation from Aniplex's part.

I've got no stake in the anime, but I think it's worth noting that Atelier Ryza, the game, is not a plot-heavy game. There is an overarching plot, and it's got some good bits to it, but the game's narrative is very much about a group of friends growing up together (and Ryza's initial brattiness and irresponsibility is a part of that). If you spend every episode hoping something will happen that kicks the plot into high gear, you'll be disappointed until near the very end.

It's almost as though the show is meant to be slice of life, in line with Atelier as a series focusing more on the small-scale adventures of alchemists and their friends (to the point where the tagline for the latest game is that there's more to RPGs than saving the world). No, clearly there's problems with the show because it doesn't fit a very restrictive mold of what I wanted it to be, while knowing nothing about the franchise it's an adaptation of. Off to a great start here.

The music is one of the key highlights for me. Im surprised none of the reviewers mention the music in the anime.

As a player of the game, the music in the anime is a nice remix of the songs.

Watching this and not impressed so far, but .. I don't know, I'm a sucker for fantasy settings? I guess I'm just glad no one was truck-kun'd into this world with their smartphone. Maybe my expectations have fallen a bit low... Shocked

I agree with the reviewer well said. it is boring as all heck. Ryza is stupid, boring, selfish and frankly an anti hero i think. There is nothing going on in the story and nothing ever will.

Hateful. no. Honest yes. The Ryza series of games is one of the big non events in Anime type game history. Amazing it has lasted so long and her outfit is ugly beyond measure. her socks and thighs are ugly. Her figure is bottom heavy and lumbers around the game and the anime in identical cringeworthy fashion. I look forward to other anime including a great return to the wonderful Tonikaku Kawaii story.

Just because a show was made as a slice of life show doesn’t mean it can’t be criticized for slow or plodding writing.

Not sure if it'll be because of the tights or the shorts, but she is well on her way to a case of thrombosis. Shocked

"Where the plot???" is not a critique of slow writing, whatever that phrase even means. Slow compared to what? What's the destination it is apparently supposed to be heading to expeditiously? Is a show not allowed to be about tiny misadventures and inconsequential events in people's lives?

It's psuedo-intellectual drivel. Thinking you're saying something of critical value, while actually not saying anything at all. Because ultimately it's just looking past what a work actually is to whine about what you thought it should be.

I like the show but I knew going in what the games were like and that this series is known for being an uneventful slice of life thing. It's the kind of thing where you're either into it or not but it doesn't make someone "pseudo-intellectual" for not vibing with a cartoon show.

Hi guys, let me start this out by saying...sigh why do I have to do this!! Now to follow up alllow me to express the shock and horror that people care about this and if you are wondering why, we'll I haven't played the game or seen the anime yet so I'm wondering why myself. Anyway, I think it's bland I guess..un 2 star and 2.5 every other episode.

Please look forward to my weekly reviews. I know I wont.

and it's obvious that a lot of care has been put into the animation quality for this series.

Not even remotely, it's the most basic animation you could ask for. Seems like one of those cases where people confuse "having a lot of detail = animation", but that's not what animation means.
