My favorite group angela got the record thanks to THE BEYOND. Fafner is one of my favorite series of all time and I spoiler[hate THE BEYOND because it fumbled so damn hard on how to end the series after EXODUS], but it finally did something right by providing more songs for angela to make, which led to this moment. jukushita kajitsu dake erabarete naifu de sakarete nomikomareru mae ni Heeey! bokura wa mezashita Shangri-La yokubou wa osaekirezu ni kuusou ni mamireta "jiyuu" wo motome tsuzuketa ima nara ieru darou koko ga sou rakuen sa sayonara aoki hibi yo  At the end of Fafner, they reached Shangri-La (Guinness). You can't make this stuff up.

FLCL has 34 songs by the pillows (30 without counting repeated songs), while Fafner only has 26 (22 without counting repeated songs). The 31 number comes from including image songs that were never featured in the anime. Guinness is a joke.

I'm tempted to watch Fafnir just because I like the voice of angela's vocalist so much. I never knew Fafnir had so many theme songs by angela.

I've only seen the original anime, but found rather mediocre. angela's songs were really the only thing that stood out to me about it. Maybe the sequels are better, but it's always puzzled me why this franchise off all things keeps coming back. |

Aside from the fact that Fafner is popular in Japan, which takes priority over your opinion of "mediocre", it is quite clear you've never seen the home video sales, which clearly show why the series keeps coming back. Not just that, the home video sales starting from Heaven and Earth to Exodus Season 2 are available on this very site you've been on since 2007 (apparently, you started posting again, but that doesn't mean you haven't been viewing the site, a month shy of 15 years). Don't worry, I'll do you two solids and tell you the sales of the 9 1st series volumes: 9k, 7k, 7k, 8k, 8k, 8k, 6k, 7k, 8k. Continuing... Not just that, starting from the 1st series, the Top/Favorite anime series Japanese polls as early as 2005 are available on this very site you've been on since 2007. Not just that, for THE BEYOND, the mini theater rankings are available on this very site you've been on since 2007. Don't worry, here's the 2nd solid since ANN no longer reports on weekly home video sales for the past several years: The final volume of THE BEYOND ranked #1 in home video sales (BD and DVD) in March 2022. Last one... BEHIND THE LINE theater rankings are available on this very site you've been back on since 2022. So... instead of giving a meaningless post/opinion in the bold for the sake of attempting to trash it, you could have put in the work by doing research and found the answer. |

No, the person Rob was quoting asked why Fafner "keeps coming back", not "why is it so popular", so Rob answering with sales numbers made perfect sense, as "it keeps coming back because it continues to sell" is the answer to the query. |
